Senior Collections Specialist
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Collections Specialist to support a small law firm with a busy medical and consumer collections business.
Description:
- Claim intake – new and existing clientele
- Review and set up new placements
- Verify account balances and supporting documentation
- Prepare and send demand letters
- Establish client reporting requirements
- Open and organize electronic files
Collection
- Communicate with debtors consistent with applicable laws
- Negotiate payment arrangements, document activity, make payments
- Resolve account disputes, documentation requests: payment processing
- FDCPA, FCRA & CFPB regulations & state laws (IA, IL)
Account Administration
- Maintain account notes
- Update and manage debtor data
- Skip tracing requests
- Manage statutory and client deadlines
Requirement
- Must have Vertican Collection Master proficiency
Qualifications
- 5 years of consumer and medical collections experience
- Experience with collections litigation
- Familiarity with garnishments, judgments
- Civil litigation and Iowa law filing experience
- Candidates should possess strong Debt Collection and Cash Collection skills, including experience managing delinquent accounts and negotiating payment solutions.
- Candidates should possess excellent Communication and Customer Service skills to handle sensitive conversations, provide clear information, and maintain professional relationships.
- Candidates should possess foundational Finance skills to understand account balances, payment applications, and basic financial documentation.
- Candidates should have strong organizational and time management abilities, with attention to detail and accurate record-keeping in case management systems.
- Experience in a law firm, collections agency, or related financial services environment is beneficial, along with familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance standards.
- Proficiency with office software and collections or case management systems is preferred; the ability to learn new tools and processes quickly is important.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education in business, finance, or legal studies is a plus.
