Position Summary
The Fleet Manager role owns the full lifecycle of a diverse fleet - 350 vehicles and 50 pieces of heavy construction equipment (“yellow iron”) - ensuring compliance, safety, cost efficiency, and uptime across multiple states. This role will centralize fleet operations, lead a team of mechanics, and build scalable systems that support continued expansion. Location: Rancho Dominguez, CA, with occasional travel to Cypress, CA headquarters and project sites.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Asset Management
- Oversee lifecycle management, maintenance, and utilization of a large mixed fleet (light, medium, and heavy equipment).
- Lead vehicle and equipment acquisition, spec’ing, upfitting, replacement planning, and disposal.
- Drive preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
- Leverage telematics and fleet systems (GeoTab, WEX, eFleet) to improve performance and visibility.
Compliance, Safety & Risk
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations (FMCSA, DOT, CSA, OSHA, CARB, HOS, ELD).
- Oversee inspections, emissions reporting, registration, titling, and permitting (including OS/OW).
- Maintain driver qualification files and compliance programs (CDL, MVRs, medical cards, Clearinghouse, drug & alcohol).
- Monitor safety metrics and CSA scores; implement corrective action plans.
- Partner with Safety and Risk teams on accident response, claims, and reporting.
Financial & Vendor Management
- Own and manage fleet operating and capital budgets.
- Track and optimize costs across fuel, maintenance, insurance, and repairs.
- Negotiate and manage vendor relationships (OEMs, dealers, repair shops, specialty vendors).
- Oversee fuel card programs, including auditing, reporting, and fraud mitigation.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, develop, and manage shop and equipment mechanics.
- Coordinate with operations, dispatch, and field teams to ensure equipment readiness.
- Support expansion into new states by establishing fleet infrastructure and compliance processes.
Qualifications
Required
- 5 years of fleet management or DOT compliance experience in a multi-site, multi-state environment.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, CSA, HOS, ELD, CARB, and drug & alcohol regulations.
- Experience managing mixed fleets, including heavy construction equipment (“yellow iron”).
- Proficiency with fleet systems and telematics (GeoTab preferred) and Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, analyze data, and drive operational improvements.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field.
- Background in construction, mechanical trades, or field service operations.
- ASE certification or equivalent technical expertise.
- Experience with IRP, IFTA, OEM fleet programs, and large-scale vendor negotiations.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to read and understand printed and digital documents.
- Must be able to climb ladders, access and egress trenches and/or attic spaces and/or confined spaces.
- Requires hearing ability to communicate in noisy environments.
- Must be able to recognize alarms, signals, and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
- Ability to grasp, handle, and manipulate small objects.
Compensation
$100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
