Senior Technical Recruiter

Murphy Talent Group is growing and looking for an experienced technical recruiter to join our small and growing team in a remote setting in the greater Asheville area. The founder of Murphy Talent Group is Derrick Murphy who spent years at Google then was Head of Talent and VP of People at an AI start-up called Gretel that was acquired by NVIDIA in 2025 for 320 million.

What makes us different?

We work closely with a few Bay Area based VCs and have deep industry connections to top companies. We have built game-changing proprietary sourcing systems that help us identify and match candidates to our clients roles in just a few minutes based on real signals, not just key words, and we have an AI Engineer full time on staff working to further improve these systems. We focus on building trusted relationships with our clients rather than being a cog in a machine.

We're looking for someone who has proven success as a technical recruiter (top producer?!) working on roles like software engineering (front-end, backend, full stack), machine learning engineering, Data Science, Applied Research, and related.

We run mostly contingent searches for top Seed stage through Series C start-ups, and may expand into retained search.

This is a commission based role (1099), 45%/45% split with 10% going to recruiting operations. Estimated annual earnings are 200k and above with no cap, but it depends highly on performance. This role is not for other agencies to partner with us - so please don't reach out. While the role doesn't require a long term commitment, a sign-on bonus after 30 days is possible.

About you

• You're a seasoned recruiter who takes time to deeply understand the roles you're working on and you're a great communicator.
• You really care about the candidate experience and relationship building aspect of recruitment.
• You know the highs and lows of recruiting and don't take the emotional rollercoaster of ups and downs.
• You're a good person who genuinely cares about your candidates and the outcomes for your hiring teams, not just earning a commission.
• You don't use AI for everything, you know that the human touch matters in this business.
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Software Engineering, Machine Learning/Applied Science/Research.
• 5 years of experience, but less would be considered for candidates who have had exceptional impact in previous roles, even early career.

Nice to Haves:

• Have been in a Founding Recruiter or Head of Talent type of role.
• Have experience driving new business
• Experience with Ashby, Greenhouse, or Lever
