The primary function of the Regional Safety Manager is to develop, implement, coordinate, and ensure compliance with the company’s programs and policies covering employee health, safety, property security and regulatory compliance. The Regional Safety Manager provides support to the Corporate Safety Manager, Director of Safety & Risk Management, Executive Management, and all assigned branches, divisions, and subsidiaries.
This position has been designated as a safety-sensitive position. Any person performing the position while under the influence of marijuana or any other illegal drug may constitute a threat to health or safety or in which a lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death, including without limitation a position that includes the operating, repairing, maintaining, or monitoring of heavy equipment, machinery, aircraft, motorized watercraft, or motor vehicles or handling of hazardous materials and/or waste as part of the job duties.

The Regional Safety Manager provides support to the Corporate Safety Manager, Director of Safety & Risk Management, Executive Management, and all assigned branches, divisions, and subsidiaries.
- The Regional Safety Manager works with the Corporate Safety Manager to provide leadership and direction on all Safety matters to assigned operations, branches, and departments, including measuring, and evaluating the effectiveness of the safety program and making and recommending modifications as needed to achieve established safety goals and objectives.
- Works closely with appropriate Regional Vice Presidents and operational departments to direct the application and administration of established corporate safety programs throughout the company. Serve as consultant to assigned regions and branches to establish plans to improve overall health and safety of each region/branch.
- Attend and participate in professional and committee meetings related to health and safety issues. Serve as a principal source of information on health and safety issues. Assist with the development and administration of programs, reports, and employee training workshops.
- Plan, organize, schedule and conduct inspections of branches, work areas and equipment. Monitor site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliance with health, safety, environmental, and transportation requirements and MHC standards. Select and implement corrective action and follows-up to ensure proper action has been taken.
- Research and become well-versed on emerging hazards/issues, communicate hazard control and loss information direction to management, supervision and employees through specialized training and education programs.
- Protect the interest of the company and its employees as required by applicable regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc. with respect to applicable standards (hazard communications, record keeping, OSHA 300 logs, substance abuse/use testing, driver qualification, SDS, etc.).
- Coordinate the activities and monitor progress of the various branch Safety Committees to ensure focus on defined company/branch safety goals and objectives. Provide training to safety committees and meet with them on a regular basis to empower the committees and ensure the effectiveness of these committees in establishing a safe working environment.
- Review after action reports conducted by branch personnel for identification of incident causes and measures taken to prevent recurrence.
- Manage and facilitate the MHC Vehicle Safety Programs (driving standards, camera technology, as well as other designated technologies).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Corporate Safety Manager.

Qualifications
- Requires a four-year degree, preferably in Occupational Safety, Safety Management, or Industrial Safety. Relevant work experience and certifications preferred, but not required.
- Must take ownership of projects, be able to set their own objectives and constantly strive for improvement. Must be able to overcome obstacles – both procedural and personal.
- Ability to build a training or safety program from the ground up – identifying all stakeholders, securing buy-in, determine proper implementation methods and timelines, creating and sharing performance metrics, etc.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively to employees at all levels of the organization. Training experience is preferred. This role requires extensive presentation skills.
- Must have a great attitude and be team oriented.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience with video editing software and creating video-based training is preferred.
- Willing to travel at minimum 50% of the time. This individual will be responsible for planning their travel schedule. Travel will be heavy at times, such as when rolling out a new program or classroom-based training.
