Murphy Company is currently looking for a Shovel Operator at our White City, Oregon softwood veneer plant.
Murphy Company is a family owned and leading North American manufacturer of high-quality wood products. We operate six facilities throughout Oregon and Washington.

Primary Purpose – The facility operates in a shift-work environment that emphasizes safety, team building, total quality, and continuous process improvement. The Shovel is used to high pile and break down high-piled log decks and is occasionally used to sort logs by species.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities –
- Performing pre-shift checks on the shovel
- Fueling and greasing the shovel
- Straightening logs
- High decking
- Tearing down a log deck
- Unloading/loading log trucks if necessary
- Straightening log decks as needed
- Watching out for all truck drivers
- Setting up bunk logs
- Cleaning decks
- Willing to learn and/or operate front end loaders in order to help or fill in when needed
Other Duties and Responsibilities –
- Keep work area free of trip hazards and clutter
- Other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications and Experience -
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Able to work safely around moving manufacturing equipment and machinery
- Willing to work overtime
- Able to perform essential physical functions of the position, which may include climbing stairs, ladders, navigating catwalks, lifting and bending, work from heights, and stand or walk for 1-4 hours at a time for 10 hours
- Able to perform physically intensive work

- Read and understand SDS sheets for each potentially hazardous substance you encounter.
- If you do not know how to do a task, ask for help.
- Do not create unsafe conditions for other personnel.
- Communicate any unsafe conditions to your supervisor so they can be corrected.
