Quality Control Manager Job Description

General Overview:

• Oversee all shop inspection functions
• Supervise shop inspectors
• Coordinate contracted testing personnel
• Develop and maintain weld procedures, welder qualifications and procedure qualifications
• Maintain all inspection documentation
• Authority to stop production per a QA/QC issue

Control of Quality Records
The QC Manager shall be responsible for retention of:

• Inspection records
• NDT reports
• Corrective action reports

Material Identification

• The QC Manager and Purchasing shall be responsible for investigating any non conformance found with material and the supporting documentation.

Welding

• The QC Manager shall be responsible for ensuring that all welding procedures, qualifications and certifications are current.
• The QC manager and Production personnel shall coordinate welding work to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and specifications.
• QC Manager shall maintain a copy of certifications with the date of certification, process and position certified as well as the dates welding is performed for the stipulated process and position.
• The QC department will maintain a file on each welder and weld operator with a copy of their certification and also retain copies of certifications in such a fashion so that the dates when certifications expire will be known ahead of time.

Bolting
Inspection personnel and Production personnel shall coordinate and ensure High-Strength structural bolt joints are installed to meet the requirements set forth in this policy/procedure, in accordance with RCSC, AISC, and applicable codes and specifications.

Blast/Paint
QC Manager/ Inspection personnel will monitor work in conformance with the project specifications and manufacturer's recommendations, including but not limited to:

• Record the temperature and humidity
• Inspect for runs, damage and missed areas
• Re-inspect repairs and touch up areas
• Check the required dry film thickness, as required

Inspection:

• The QA/QC Department shall ensure compliance to this procedure.
• The QC Department shall verify that all bolts used are in conformance with this policy with respect to Manufacturer Certifications, storage, Pre-tensioned Installation and Non Pre-tensioned Installation.
• Inspection personnel and Production personnel shall coordinate and ensure High-Strength structural bolt joints are installed to meet the requirements set forth in this policy/procedure, in accordance with RCSC, AISC, and applicable codes and specifications.
• The QC manager and Production personnel shall coordinate welding work to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and specifications.
• QC Manager / Inspection personnel will monitor Surface preparation and coatings work, in conformance with the project specifications and manufacturer's recommendations.

Calibration

• The QA/QC Department shall monitor compliance to this procedure.
• The QC Manager:
• Maintains records for each item scheduled for calibration and repairs out-off tolerance equipment.
• Is responsible for the coordination of retrieving and assigning of equipment being serviced by a contracted calibration lab.
• Audits and reviews the calibration procedures being performed and keeps the calibration records on file.

Non-Conformance
The QC Manager shall ensure all non-compliant work will be acknowledged and assessed per the requirements of this procedure.

• All Production personnel are responsible for reporting any/all non-conformances to Inspection personnel.
• All Inspection personnel are responsible for assessing and reporting any/all non conformances to the QC Manager.

Corrective Action
The QC Manager shall ensure all non-compliant work will be acknowledged and assessed per the requirements of this procedure.
