Under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician I or II performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks. This role is essential for maintaining City infrastructure, with a primary focus on street repair and the maintenance of water and sewer systems. You will play a key part in ensuring our City remains safe and functional for all residents.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate power equipment and drive vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with minimal supervision.
- Actively assist in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure, including water and sewer systems.
- Perform street maintenance and repair tasks as assigned.
- Execute various related duties to support department operations.
Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possess (or be willing to obtain within 90 days) a valid Class A CDL with Air Brake endorsement.
- Possess (or be willing to obtain) necessary Water and Sewer Licensing.
- Ability to work overtime on short notice and participate in an "on-call" rotation.
Desirable Skills & Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in municipal maintenance.
- Experience operating excavation equipment and performing heavy manual labor (including trench work).
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in variable weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with colleagues and the public.
Starting wage of $19.00 - 23.69/hr is dependent on experience and skills. The City provides a generous benefit program including health, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability insurance, and paid vacation and sick leave. In addition to the competitive benefits package and salary, the City provides a LAGERS L-6 retirement plan with no employee contributions.
