Municipal Inspection Partners is a Nashville-based community development and building code consulting company. We provide a multitude of services for public and private-sector entities which include building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical inspections, engineer’s letters, 3rd party building construction plan review, stormwater review, building permit expediting services, building code consulting and building code training.
We specialize in project assistance and permit expediting projects in Metro-Nashville and Davidson County with additional offices located in Chicago Illinois, Huntsville Alabama, and Naples Florida.

We have an immediate need for an experienced Building Inspector for Middle Tennessee with a focus in Lincoln and Maury counties. This part-time position will work with our team to provide inspections and ensure compliance with local and state building codes mainly for projects in Middle Tennessee. A vehicle is provided in this role!
The ideal applicant should have at least 3 years of experience in building construction and inspection, or code enforcement. The qualified candidate must be ICC certified and hold a valid TN Inspector's license. If you are detail oriented, can work independently and are extremely organized, this may be the job for you!
JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision performs inspection of commercial, residential, and public buildings and property to ensure compliance with adopted local municipal building, property maintenance, and zoning codes. Responsibilities vary depending on inspection scheduling and specialty factors, including reviewing plans for building code compliance providing technical information to architects, engineers, contractors, and other people.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES:
· Performs on-site building and structure inspections for compliance with State and local codes and regulations;
· Prepare, maintain and organize code enforcement inspection reports and records for all completed inspections
· Notifies contractors, engineers, architects, subcontractors, and owners of code violations and discusses remedies;
· Cites deficiencies and rechecks to make sure corrective action has been taken, as applicable;
· Advises contractors concerning building, mechanical, plumbing, and other regulations, as applicable;
· Performs inspections of existing buildings and properties to determine if hazardous or illegal conditions exist relating to the land and/or structures, their use, and general upkeep/maintenance
· With approval, issue notices to correct building code, Town Code, and/or Land Development Ordinance violations, issue "stop work" notices, “notice of violation” letters, and/or testify in court regarding violations
· Assist and advise design professionals, contractors, and the general public in matters relating to construction, code requirements, and property maintenance, if applicable;
· Seek innovative solutions to problems while assuring code compliance
· Facilitates and works within a "team oriented" environment, being an effective team member
· Support other Staff in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, or priorities
· Handles confidential information with tact and discretion
· Regularly cleans and maintains department vehicles, equipment and facilities;
· Other duties as assigned
SKILLS/ABILITLIES REQUIRED:
· Knowledge of building materials, methods of construction, and building codes. Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
· Knowledge of International Code Council and relevant municipal and state codes;
· Knowledge of construction techniques and contracting procedures;
· Knowledge of building, plumbing, housing, and related codes and basic principles and techniques of building inspection
· Skills in establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relations with builders, contractors, developers, city staff, and the public;
· Skill and ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing;
· Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency;
· Ability to operate office equipment including PC computer, software applications and other required instruments, equipment and programs;
· Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle; Acceptable and clean MVR required
· Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify solutions and effectively solve problems;
· Ability to maintain a good rapport and working relationship with customers/contractors and employees
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· High School or equivalent required
· Clean MVR Required
· Minimum three (3) years in building construction and inspection required.
· Current certification as a building inspector through the State of Tennessee
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position must have overall stamina and ability to perform moderate to strenuous physical activity. Job requirements may include the ability to climb, bend, and work in tight or confined areas. In addition, close vision, color vision, depth perception, and far vision are essential to performance of the position. Corrective lenses may be utilized. The incumbent must be able to hear alarms and have the ability to audibly identify the presence of a danger or hazard. The position also requires the ability to lift, carry or move items up to 50 pounds. The nature of the work requires the ability to tolerate a variety of weather conditions; hot, cold, wet along with pollutants such as fumes, dust, and other contaminants found on construction sites. The Inspector may also be required to be available during emergency situations and may be required to work irregular or extended hours as necessary.
Pay: $50.00 - $70.00 per hour
