Summary
The Bartender/Concessions Lead is responsible for overseeing daily food and beverage operations, alcohol service compliance, event bar execution, and facility readiness at Diamond Lake. This position provides direct supervision to Bartender/Concessions Attendants and event support staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality public operations and private functions. The Manager enforces liquor law compliance, transaction procedures, health regulations, and district standards while maintaining a professional, welcoming, and fiscally responsible environment. The position requires evening, weekend, and holiday availability and serves as the on-site supervisor during assigned shifts and private events.
Qualifications – Education, Experience and Training
Minimum 21 years old. High School Diploma or Equivalent. Minimum two (2) years of restaurant, bar, concessions, or event facility experience, with at least one (1) year in a leadership or supervisory role preferred. Gain or maintain current Basset certification. Gain or maintain current Food Handler certification. Demonstrated experience with POS systems and transaction procedures. Knowledge of Illinois liquor laws, food safety standards, and local health department regulations required. Restaurant, bar, and/or event facility experience preferred. CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required, and if not certified, must become certified.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to Bartender/Concessions Attendants and support staff.
- Serve as the on-site manager as assigned.
- Perform duties consistent with the Bartender/Concessions Attendant position in place of, and in addition to, the Attendant.
- Ensure staff adherence to customer service and safety standards and district policies.
- Make independent decisions regarding guest service issues, operational challenges, and safety concerns within the scope of work overseen by the position.
- Complete shift reports and communicate updates to the Recreation Facility Manager.
- Oversee concession and bar operations to ensure compliance with quality, portion, and presentation standards.
- Monitor beer, wine, and full bar service to ensure compliance with Illinois liquor laws and BASSET guidelines.
- Ensure use of proper ID verification procedures by all staff and intervene when service refusal is necessary.
- Maintain accurate alcohol tracking, inventory documentation, and reconciliation procedures in line with district procedures.
- Conduct end-of-shift cash reconciliation and verify POS accuracy.
- Monitor food storage, preparation areas, and sanitation compliance.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for concessions, bar, and event operations.
- Coordinate bar setup and breakdown for events.
- Ensure event packages are executed according to district standards.
- Supervise staff to maintain elevated service standards.
- Support rental staff and coordinate with facility staff to ensure successful events and programs.
- Address guest or vendor concerns and document incidents as required.
- Secure bar and concession areas and inventory following the conclusion of events and daily operations.
- Supervise daily opening and closing procedures, including interior and exterior facility preparation.
- Verify setup of service and prep areas, seating areas, signage, and safety checks.
- Oversee seating preparation, including furniture placement and cleanliness.
- Ensure facility security procedures are followed before, during, and at the end of shifts.
- Complete and verify closing checklists.
- Ensure trash removal, sanitation, and proper storage of food and alcohol products.
- Maintain current BASSET and Food Handler certifications.
- Train and mentor part-time staff on procedures, customer service standards, and compliance requirements.
- Conduct on-shift coaching and performance feedback as appropriate.
- Assist with onboarding and cross-training of staff.
- Support scheduling coordination and shift coverage as directed.
- Maintain effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, vendors, and the public.
- Identify operational efficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Maintain availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain the ability to work both public operation shifts and private events.
- Obtain the willingness to cross-train in concessions, bar service, and support functions.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
