What are the responsibilities and job description for the Play Manager position at Munchkin Town?
Summary:
Hey! This is Marissa and Dave, and we've been the owners of Munchkin Town for two years now. We've poured our heart and soul into building Munchkin Town into the thriving community that it is today, and we've thankfully reached the scale at which we need full-time managerial help to enable continued growth (we've got big future plans!). We're looking to hire an extraverted, enthusiastic Play Manager that loves playing with children and building relationships with adults, and also possesses the attention to detail to ensure smooth operations. This is not a sit behind the desk kind of job. Does that sound like you? Keep reading if so.
About Us:
Munchkin Town is an indoor play space for children aged 5 and under, but more holistically, we're a community and a sanctuary for families in the Central Pinellas community. In our space, toddlers learn how to make friends and parents bond over the shared (sometimes exhausting!) experience of raising little ones. We're devout believers in the power of play in building well-rounded, empathetic, joyful adults long term. We've carefully curated our play space and activity schedule to optimize around that desired outcome, and our Team Members play a huge role in achieving it as well!
Position Overview:
We're looking for a Play Manager to manage our Team Members and help us grow! Our Team Members are responsible for creating a fun, inviting, and positive atmosphere by engaging with children and parents, leading activities, and keeping the space clean and organized. As Manager, you'll both serve as an active Team Member and be responsible for training and supervising the rest of the Team Members.
Key Team Member Responsibilities:
- Customer Engagement:
- Greet guests with warmth and enthusiasm.
- Create a positive, inclusive environment for families.
- Engage with both children and parents to build relationships and ensure a memorable experience.
- Handle any issues or concerns with professionalism and a calm demeanor.
- Activity Coordination:
- Facilitate and participate in crafts, sensory play, imaginative activities, and other scheduled programs.
- Help organize and assist with special events, classes, and activities to keep things fun and engaging for all ages.
- Space Maintenance/Deep cleaning:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized play space throughout the day.
- Perform cleaning tasks throughout the day (sweeping, wiping down surfaces, etc.).
- Take ownership of the deeper cleaning at closing time, including mopping floors, sanitizing bathrooms, and dusting.
- Flexibility & Adaptability:
- Be flexible and ready to take on various tasks as needed.
- Stay adaptable and positively contribute to the dynamic environment at Munchkin Town.
Upon demonstrating strong capability in the above core Team Member functions (assessed during initial 2 week training period), your leadership responsibilities will include:
- Training newly hired Team Members in our standard operating procedures.
- Providing ongoing supervision and support to team members to ensure compliance with operating procedures and overall job satisfaction.
- Managing the weekly Team Member schedule, personally covering shifts as necessary to ensure ongoing full coverage, and keeping ownership abreast when we need to hire additional Team Members to plug upcoming holes.
- Tracking inventory levels (snacks, beverages, cleaning products, etc), alerting ownership when we're running low on anything.
- Otherwise maintaining open lines of communication with ownership regarding the good, bad and ugly of what's taking place day to day.
Personal Qualities we're Seeking:
- Passion for engaging with children and building community.
- Extraversion -- must thrive on engagement with children and adults.
- Ability to make independent decisions in unforeseen circumstances.
- A positive, proactive attitude and general team-oriented mentality.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in cleaning and maintaining a hygienic environment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks (standing for long periods, bending, squatting, etc.).
Professional Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children.
- Previous experience in a role that required training, teaching and/or managing adults.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Pre-K lesson planning experience preferred.
- Must pass a background check
If you’re ready to create lasting memories, nurture creativity, and be a part of a vibrant community, we’d love to hear from you! Join us and help make Munchkin Town the best place for kids and families to play, learn, and grow!
