REPORTS TO: School Health Services Administrator
POSITION PURPOSE: To provide mentoring and support to MESD registered nurses and school health assistants (SHAs), including orientation to these roles and to the School Health Services (SHS) Department.
NATURE AND SCOPE: This position is subject to Board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a lead position which requires providing direction and coaching methods in an environment that is participatory and supportive, assessing employee progress, and offering constructive feedback regarding employee growth and performance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide training and support to new nurses and school health assistants (SHAs), and to identified department staff, adjusting allocated time as determined by individual needs, progress, and experience.
- Participate in new staff orientation, including electronic documentation systems and database training.
- Assist in developing and implementing a skills development checklist for new nurses and SHAs.
- Participate in evaluating job performance and a process to assess and improve the position's effectiveness.
- Provide mentoring around roles and responsibilities of the nurse and the SHA in the school setting, including health room management, presentations and training, and participation in school meetings, committees, and wellness activities.
- Conduct health education classes, first aid training, communicable disease event management, and triaging of exposure calls in collaboration with the department nurse consultant.
- Provide guidance regarding department policies and procedures, development of the student individual health care plan, conducting initial and review delegations.
- Provide feedback to nurses and serve as liaison between staff, complex needs nurses, nurse consultant, and department administration.
- Accept responsibility and model professionalism and integrity in interactions with school staff, families, peers, and community partners.
- Maintain exemplary work standards and regular, timely attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Director/Coordinator, including attendance at work-related meetings and participation at school or community health-related events.
- Provide support to staff in a variety of school settings in multiple districts.

- Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use.
