Youth Strength & Conditioning Specialist

Multnomah Athletic Club
Portland, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 7/7/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/5/2026
Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland’s most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It’s like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC’s 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.

Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.

The Role

The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking an energetic and knowledgeable Youth Strength & Conditioning Specialist to help young athletes build confidence, develop athletic skills, and establish a lifelong love of movement. This role designs and delivers safe, age-appropriate strength and conditioning programs for youth athletes ages 11–18, grounded in Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) principles.

As a trusted coach and mentor, you'll create engaging training experiences that support athletic performance while considering each athlete's stage of growth, maturation, and readiness. You'll work closely with athletes, families, and fellow fitness professionals to foster healthy development, physical literacy, and positive training habits in a fun and supportive environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design and lead individualized and small-group strength and conditioning programs for youth athletes.
  • Apply Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) principles to create age- and stage-appropriate training plans.
  • Assess athletes' movement patterns, fitness levels, growth stages, sports backgrounds, and health histories.
  • Monitor athletes during periods of growth and adapt programming to support safe development.
  • Coach fundamental movement skills and athletic performance techniques.
  • Educate athletes and parents on physical literacy, long-term development, and healthy training practices.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, motivation, and enjoyment of physical activity.
  • Maintain regular communication with athletes, parents, and Fitness & Performance team members.
  • Accurately manage scheduling, billing, and related administrative responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Fitness Coaches, sport coaches, and other Performance staff to support holistic athlete development.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development opportunities, club trainings, and safety drills.
  • Support youth-focused clinics, camps, and special programming initiatives as needed.
  • Uphold MAC safety standards, Code of Conduct, and service excellence expectations.
  • Respond to club emergency procedures, including Code Blue and Code Red situations.
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance and availability for evening and weekend programming.

What You'll Bring

Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sport Science, or a related field preferred.
  • NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) preferred.
  • Equivalent nationally recognized certifications such as NSCA-CPT, NASM-CPT, ACE-CPT, USAW, or similar will be considered.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of youth exercise physiology, growth and maturation, and motor development.
  • Knowledge of Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) frameworks and youth performance training principles.
  • Experience coaching youth athletes in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to create developmentally appropriate strength, conditioning, and athletic performance programs.
  • Understanding of fundamental movement patterns, including squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling, carrying, and locomotion.
