Youth Programs Lead (Afternoons)

Multnomah Athletic Club
Portland, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 7/31/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/30/2026

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland’s most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It’s like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC’s 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.

Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.

The Role

In MAC's Youth Programs Department, fun is mandatory. If you enjoy building relationships with children, creating engaging activities, and helping young people learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and welcoming environment, this role is for you.

As a Youth Programs Lead (Afternoon), you will support children ages 7-18 through classes, camps, special events, and childcare programming while helping create exceptional experiences for members and families. You'll take the lead in planning and implementing appropriate age activities, maintaining a safe and organized environment, and fostering positive connections with children, parents, and staff.

This is a part-time position with the opportunity to work additional hours, depending on availability and programming needs. Candidates must be available Monday through Friday between 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM, with flexible start times.

What You'll Do

  • Create and maintain a warm, safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and families.
  • Plan, prepare, and lead weekly curriculum, activities, camps, classes, and special events for youth ages 7-18.
  • Facilitate age-appropriate activities that support children's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Lead classes, camps, and special events while ensuring a fun and enriching experience for participants.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by building positive relationships with children, parents, members, and staff.
  • Follow established check-in and check-out procedures and communicate effectively with families.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards, child supervision practices, and positive behavior management techniques.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming program spaces.
  • Assist with seasonal program guides and help communicate program information through social media and other member communications.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and monthly emergency drills.
  • Support childcare operations by preparing activities and crafts, supervising play, serving snacks, assisting with toileting and hygiene needs, and ensuring children's belongings are properly labeled.
  • Respond appropriately to children's emotional and developmental needs while maintaining a positive and nurturing environment.
  • Uphold all MAC policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and child safety requirements.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience working with school-aged children; one year of related experience preferred.
  • Passion for creating positive, engaging experiences for children and families.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, patient, and energetic presence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with children, parents, members, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to child safety, inclusion, and professional conduct.
  • First Aid/CPR certification and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect certification, or the ability to obtain both within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely perform the physical requirements of the role.
  • Reliable attendance and flexibility to support occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check through the Multnomah Athletic Club.
