SUMMARY: The Director of Manufacturing Process and Engineering will work closely with the Vice President of Operations in optimizing all aspects of our manufacturing processes, including design and implementation within our Mounds View, Minnesota location. This individual will play a key role in ensuring that the facility has the management systems and technical capabilities required to improve product quality, cost and delivery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure that manufacturing has the process control and reporting needed to support world class performance in quality, cost and delivery.
Own the product introduction process. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure manufacturability and efficient production of our products, including participation throughout the engineering design review process to meet specification, quality and cost requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve quality, cost and delivery through best practice methods in manufacturing, testing, product design and process. Initiate and coordinate implementation with other departments (e.g. Test/Quality Engineering, Design Engineering).
Actively participate in root cause analysis and corrective action for quality issues.
Ensure that tooling, fixtures and equipment are controlled, maintained and improved as required to meet quality, cost and delivery needs.
Identify vulnerabilities in manufacturing operations that might affect quality, delivery or cost. Identify and drive implementation of corrective actions.
Develop and coordinate various programs essential to operational improvement; examples might include (but not be limited to):
Process documentation improvement,
Production line changeover improvement,
NPI process improvement, etc.
Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, equipment and technologies, working across operations and cross-functionally to drive change.
Advocate for, build and present cases for necessary tools, equipment and facility changes to improve manufacturing processes. Gain buy-in and appropriate approvals for capital expenditures from senior management as appropriate.
Develop, monitor, meet and continuously evolve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as established for each operational unit.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
B.S. Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
10 years of experience in electronics manufacturing, including significant experience in manufacturing management. A demonstrated track record of product quality and delivery excellence.
5 years of proven direct people-leadership and change management experience.
Experience with Lean/Six Sigma or similar methodology, or experience in manufacturing in the automotive industry.
Experience in a low-volume / high-mix manufacturing environment.
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Working knowledge of PCB layout and electronic schematics.
Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work well with others.
Ability to travel, in including internationally, on a limited basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting requirements up to 15 pounds.
Requires sitting for periods of time and occasional mobility.
Use hands to finger, handle or feel.
Requires travel using multiple modes of transportation.
Requires a valid passport.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Minimal noise.
Our Minnesota facility includes a PCB assembly manufacturing environment. Moderate noise level. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; safety glasses, hearing protection, wrist and shoe straps, and ESD smock. Loose fitting clothing and jewelry are not permitted. No food allowed in the manufacturing area. No cell phone use allowed in manufacturing area unless approved by management.
