About the Role
The Senior Engineer is responsible for developing and optimizing cold heading processes, designing tooling, and supporting production with engineering solutions to ensure product quality, efficient manufacturing, and cost competitiveness. This role additionally manages the Tool Room, overseeing tooling procurement, inventory, and usage tracking, with a focus on improving tool life and reducing costs.
Responsibilities
- Design and validate cold heading tooling for single and multi-die operations
- Develop Methods of Manufacturing (MoMs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and routings in Epicor ERP
- Evaluate part prints for manufacturability, recommend improvements, and prepare feasibility assessments for new quotes
- Support quoting by estimating production costs, tooling costs, and subcontract requirements
- Maintain and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks per company standards
- Lead root cause analyses and implement corrective actions for tooling and production issues
- Evaluate and improve tooling life and part quality through redesigns or process changes
Manage Tool Room operations:
- Evaluate current tooling processes and inventory systems
- Develop and implement improvements for tool control, ordering, and usage tracking
- Determine which tools are made in-house vs. purchased externally
- Oversee purchasing tools for new parts and existing parts, ensuring timely availability for production
- Issue tooling to jobs accurately and efficiently
- Track tool life data in Epicor ERP, analyze excessive tool usage, and develop action plans for improvement
- Mentor and train junior engineers or trainees as needed
- Recommend process improvements and equipment upgrades to enhance manufacturing capabilities
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 5 years experience in cold heading or fastener manufacturing engineering
- Proficiency in cold forming tool design for single and multi-die headers
- Strong CAD skills in AutoCAD; SolidWorks proficiency preferred
- Experience in Tool Room management, tooling procurement, and inventory control
- Working knowledge of ERP systems (Epicor preferred) for BOMs, routings, and tool tracking
- Knowledge of material properties, heat treat, plating, and fastener standards (IFI, ISO, automotive and aerospace specs)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive projects to completion
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Salary : $100,000 - $125,000
