Guidance Counselor - Elementary/Middle

Primary Function:

To help students understand their abilities, aptitudes and interests in light of the opportunities and demands they experience presently or may experience in the future.

Qualifications:

1. Hold postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in elementary school counseling
2. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel and members of the community.

Reports to:  Principal

Performance Responsibilities:

1. To counsel students with learning, physical, social, and emotional problems, through conferences help with students on the basis of teacher, parent, principal, or self- referral.
2. To provide planned occupational information programs for the purpose of introducing the student to the world of work.
3. To identify students with special needs.
4. To maintain accurate and up-to-date permanent record folders.
5. To consult with classroom teachers, school principal, visiting teacher, school nurse, psychologist, and parents relative to students and their problems.
6. To interpret objective data to classroom teachers, parents, and students.
7. To work closely with classroom teachers in planning and implementing group guidance sessions based on the developmental needs of all students.
8. To arrange case conferences involving classroom teachers, visiting teachers, school nurse, psychologists, parents, principal, and community agencies.
9. To acquaint teachers with psychological personnel and services available.
10. To act as the liaison between school and community agencies in working on student problems.
11. To coordinate the efforts of all specialist working on a case.
12. To provide for articulation between the sending school and receiving school
13. To undertake, in a cooperative endeavor, the continuous evaluation of:
14. the nature and scope of the guidance services as outlined above.
15. The functioning of guidance as an integral part of the total educational program.
16. The effectiveness of guidance services.
17. To perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Terms of Employment:
The length of the contract will be determined by the Carroll County School Board. The Salary will be from the Teacher Salary Scale.

Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.

Salary : $53,802 - $86,312
