Early Childhood Special Education Services Teacher Position

 

Position Goal:

To provide individualized educational services and support to young children (birth through 5 years), in their natural environment (home & community) by planning and implementing strategies and activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will assist students in achieving the maximum level of functional independence possible within their capabilities, through the development of an individualized service program, within the least restrictive environment, that meets the students’ and families’ needs, while collaborating with all members of the child’s education team.

 

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with ZS endorsement -or- ZA and Special Education endorsement
  • Early Childhood Special Education Approval - Experience working with young children and diverse populations preferred
  • Ability to work cooperatively with parents, colleagues, community members, educational staff, and students is required

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of typical development for children from birth to kindergarten.
  2. Develop and work toward the achievement of performance objectives for each assigned student, with a system for data collection and evaluation for these objectives.
  3. Demonstrate ability to instruct students individually in a variety of settings, based on knowledge of child growth and development and using multi-sensory techniques.
  4. Provide case management such as: home/classroom visits, recordkeeping, individualized educational program meetings/individualized family service plan meetings, writing goals and performance objectives, progress reports, follow-up on services to coordinate needs, student staffings, and facilitation of student transitions.
  5. Provide high-quality instruction that supports and aligns with the HCISD's educational vision and mission.
  6. Model and demonstrate developmentally appropriate practices.
  7. Assess and modify instructional practice leading toward increased student achievement.
  8. Work as a team with other professionals to pursue and meet individual performance objectives.
  9. Establish a positive relationship with teachers, parents, and educational providers, and communicate with them regularly about growth, progress, concerns, and successes.
  10. Analyze student behavior, develop and implement behavior programs as needed.
  11. Serve as a resource to parents of your students, providing information and/or contacts for support, assistance, or knowledge of their child and his or her individual needs.
  12. Serve as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team and the Individual Educational Planning Committee.
  13. Work cooperatively with ancillary staff, office staff, administration, and community service agencies.
  14. Facilitate an environment that fosters positivity, collaboration, and the learning of all students.
  15. Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community.
  16. Demonstrate warmth, patience, ability to adapt to a changing environment, consistency, tolerance, empathy, trust, reliability, strong moral character, good attendance, sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
  17. Demonstrate professional improvement through in-service attendance, CEUs or college credit, conference attendance, and reading professional literature.
  18. Prepare required reports and provide necessary information accurately and punctually.
  19. Identify program needs and assist in finding solutions for challenges or problems.
  20. Supervise assigned paraprofessionals, student teachers, interns, vocational students, and volunteers.
  21. Involve parents in the education of their children.
  22. Communicate regularly with parents by means of in-person visits, notes, phone calls, texts, newsletters, letters, and individual parent conferences.
  23. Involve families in community activities as appropriate.
  24. Promote parent participation and involvement in education activities provided for their child.
  25. Organize materials and time efficiently and keep neat, accurate records.
  26. Use universal precautions at all times for personal health and safety.
  27. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
  28. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Employment Date, Salary and Work Year

 

The anticipated start date will be determined upon hire.  The salary is determined as per the master contract.
