What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Machine Builder position at Multiax Technologies?
The Role
We're hiring a Machine Builder who can grow into doing both the mechanical and electrical work on a CNC build. We want people who own the machine from frame-up through panel wiring, alignment, and runoff instead of handing it across departments.
You don't need to walk in already knowing how to do all of this. If you have solid mechanical instincts, you're comfortable with tools, and you genuinely want to learn the electrical side — or vice versa — we'll teach you the rest. The people we work best with are curious, careful, and not afraid to ask questions.
You'll work alongside our engineering, applications, and service teams in a build bay where machines roll out the door directly to customer sites. Several members of our service team came up through the build floor.
What You'll Do
- Mechanical build: Assemble and integrate multi-axis CNC machining centers from engineering drawings — frames, drive trains, spindles, gantries, shuttle tables, pneumatics. Set, level, and align to spec.
- Electrical build: Build and wire control panels, route harnesses, land servo motors, sensors, and pneumatic valves to schematic.
- Test and runoff: Power up, calibrate axes, troubleshoot issues, and run acceptance cycles before the machine ships.
- Document: Mark up drawings, log build time and parts, and flag design issues back to engineering.
- Improve: Tell us what's wrong with the build process. Most of our real process improvements come from the floor.
What We're Looking For
What matters most:
- Strong mechanical aptitude — you understand how things fit together and why
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
- Able to read mechanical drawings, or willing to learn
- Detail-oriented and careful with your work
- Honest about what you don't know yet, and willing to learn it
- Reliable, shows up, works well with a small team
- Able to lift heavy components and work in a manufacturing environment
Helpful but not required — we'll train the rest:
- Background in machine assembly, automation, industrial maintenance, automotive, ag equipment, or skilled trades
- Any experience with electrical wiring, panel building, or schematic reading
- Servo drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, or vacuum systems
- CNC experience from any angle (operator, setup, maintenance, build)
Multiax Technologies is the North American dealer and service partner for Multiax International, an Italian builder of large-format, multi-axis CNC machining centers. From our Grandville, Michigan facility we assemble, integrate, install, and service machines that run in commercial door plants and aerospace composites shops across the U.S. and Canada. We're a small, hands-on team where every builder sees a machine from bare frame to runoff — not one station on a line.
The Multiax facility includes 7,400 square feet of warehouse/showroom space where CNC machines are set up for performing customer sales discussions, training, and demos. We have a large spare parts area for organizing and shipping spare parts as needed by our customers. In addition, 1,200 square feet of office space with conference and training room.
Salary : $55,000 - $68,000
