DIRECTOR, COMMERCIAL BUSINESS
JOB OVERVIEW
The Director, Commercial Business is a senior leader responsible for driving the long-term success of the company’s existing customer base. This individual oversees a team of Project Managers ensuring the team delivers exceptional customer satisfaction, timely project execution, and consistent internal alignment. Beyond day-to-day operations, the Director, Commercial Business is expected to elevate the Commercial team’s strategic thinking, encouraging a shift from reactive account handling to proactive growth management.
This role involves full portfolio ownership, reviewing the health of all Commercial accounts to identify key growth drivers, margin risks, and customer retention opportunities. The Director, Commercial Business plays a pivotal role in identifying accounts that are no longer profitable or strategically aligned and is expected to assess the root causes and define recommended next steps in partnership with the executive leadership team.
The Director, Commercial Business collaborates closely with the Director, Business Development to manage seamless transitions of newly onboarded accounts from Business Development to Commercial. This includes evaluating the customer profile, a review of projects in house or in the pipeline, and growth potential to assign the appropriate Project Manager for ongoing support.
This position is also responsible for cultivating top-to-top relationships with senior leadership within key Commercial accounts to support both customer retention and strategic growth opportunities.
This is a highly cross-functional leadership role that combines people management, commercial strategy, and customer insight to grow the business.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Summary:
Team Leadership & Development
· Lead and manage a team of Project Managers
· Develop PM training plans as well as outlining career development plans
· Promote a culture of accountability, proactive communication, and continuous improvement for team growth & morale
· Bring a strong internal presence ensuring the team operates with structure, clarity, and urgency
Strategic Client Oversight & Retention
- Own client retention strategy and execution across the commercial portfolio
- In partnership with the CMO, regularly review the customer portfolio to identify growth opportunities and flag risk accounts
- Collaborate with the CMO to develop and execute specific customer retention plans for at-risk customers
- Cultivate and maintain top-to-top relationships with senior leadership across key customer accounts
Pricing & Forecasting Strategy
- Collaborate with Finance, BD, and appropriate members of the Executive Leadership team on the Annual Pricing Review
· Use market insights with strategic planning skills to forecast
· Possess Data driven decision making skills for effective forecasting
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as the Commercial lead in cross-departmental meetings with Operations, Procurement, QA, Finance, and Warehouse/Logistics
Process Improvement
- Identify areas of opportunity for enhancing workflows within the Commercial PM team

· Bachelor’s Degree
· 10 Years Relevant Experience

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
• Manager: CMO
• Managerial Responsibility: Commercial Project Management Team
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Starting Salary: $150k
