What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant or Technician position at Mullins Veterinary Hospital?
As a busy general practice clinic, Mullins Veterinary Hospital serves small animals, including cats and dogs, as well as equine patients. We are looking for a reliable and compassionate individual with a passion for delivering exceptional animal care and enhancing the lives of pets and their owners. Your ability to work with the doctors and other staff to establish a solid relationship, along with an awareness that there is always new knowledge to gain, is critical. Experience in the veterinary field is a plus.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performing simple laboratory screenings such as ear cytology, skin cytology, urinalysis, fecal flotation, etc.
- Assisting the DVM during examinations, vaccinations, and treatments
- Run in-house laboratory tests and package outside lab samples
- Collecting blood via venipuncture and placing intravenous catheters
- Observe animal behavior and condition and report to the DVM
- Administering injections, medications, and performing treatments per the veterinarian's orders
- Shaving or otherwise preparing an animal for surgery
- Dispensing medications to pet owners per the veterinarian's orders
- Cleaning the kennels and other facilities in the veterinary clinic
- Sanitizing and maintaining surgical instruments
- Handling and restraining animals for treatment.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years veterinary experience preferred
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday with one day off during the week
- Alternating holidays and weekends
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
