Experienced Transactional Paralegal / Legal Assistant

Colorado Springs, CO | Full-Time, Non-Exempt | In-Office

35 Years Downtown | Selected a Best Workplace | Real Estate, Business, Estate Planning and Land Use

If you have built a career on getting transactions closed cleanly, from purchase and sale agreement through title review to the closing table, this is a seat where that skill is put to work every day and recognized by the attorneys who depend on it.

For over 35 years, business clients have relied on Mulliken Weiner Berg & Jolivet P.C. for in-depth experience across a diverse range of practice areas, from complex commercial transactions to complex commercial litigation and all aspects of commercial client representation. The firm has consistently been selected as the Best Workplace and is located in downtown Colorado Springs with a view of Pikes Peak.

This is a long-term platform role, not a steppingstone. The firm is adding to its numbers and is looking for a paralegal who wants to settle in, learn the client base, and grow with the practice. In return you get stability, a genuine benefits package, and colleagues who have stayed for years.

About the Role

You will assist attorneys in transactional matters across real estate, business, estate planning, and land use. You will be expected to manage deadlines, maintain files up-to-date, and work with attorneys to anticipate the next step and keep files moving forward. The pace is steady and the variety is real: a residential closing, a title objection, an entity formation, and a due diligence request can all land in the same week.

Schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in office, with overtime as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial and residential real estate transactions from purchase and sale agreement through closing, tracking deadlines and maintaining closing checklists.
  • Prepare and process real estate commission forms, contracts, amendments, and closing documents.
  • Order, review, and summarize title commitments, exception documents, and surveys, and work with attorneys to clear title objections.
  • Draft and assemble corporate governance documents, including formation filings, operating agreements, bylaws, resolutions, consents, and annual reports.
  • Support business transactions, commercial contracts, and acquisitions and divestitures, including due diligence collection and review, closing checklists, and closing binders.
  • Maintain entity records and Secretary of State filings across a portfolio of client entities.
  • Assist with estate planning matters, including document assembly, recording, and filings with local jurisdictions.
  • Provide legal and administrative support to multiple attorneys at once, managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Communicate directly with clients, title companies, lenders, brokers, and opposing counsel throughout a transaction.
  • Maintain accurate files, calendars, and time records consistent with firm standards and the general rules of legal ethics.

Requirements

Experience and background:

  • Minimum of five years of hands-on paralegal or legal assistant experience.
  • Substantial experience with commercial and residential real estate transactions from purchase and sale agreement to closing, including real estate commission forms and contracts and title review.
  • Substantial experience with corporate governance, business transactions, commercial contracts, and acquisitions and divestitures, including due diligence and closings.
  • Substantial experience providing legal assistance and administrative support to multiple attorneys.
  • Estate planning exposure preferred.

Must-haves:

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word and PDF software. Excel proficiency preferred.
  • Excellent references.
  • Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills, plus strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound reasoning, and confident day-to-day decision making.
  • Ability to work with little supervision, adapt as priorities shift, apply the general legal rules of ethical behavior, and carry yourself with consistent professionalism.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • A firm with 35 years downtown and a consistent Best Workplace selection, not a revolving door.
  • Genuine variety across real estate, business transactions, estate planning, and land use, so the work does not get repetitive.
  • Attorneys who rely on your judgment instead of routing every decision back through a supervisor.
  • Firm-paid health and life insurance, a Simple IRA with a 3% match, and paid parking downtown.
  • An office with a view of Pikes Peak and free access to the building’s fitness facilities.

Benefits

  • Salary: $55,000 to $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Full-time, non-exempt, with overtime as needed.
  • Discretionary cash bonus.
  • Firm-paid health insurance, with optional dental and vision, plus health savings or flexible spending account.
  • Simple IRA with a 3% firm match.
  • Firm-paid life insurance.
  • Paid parking and free access to the building’s fitness facilities.
  • 8.5 paid firm holidays, a generous paid time off policy, and 48 hours of HFWA leave.
