Position Description
As a Project Buyer, you will support the execution of our automation projects by owning project supply readiness and supplier-side project execution. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to understand project BOMs, confirm BOM completeness, identify long-lead or high-risk items, develop purchase request packages, coordinate supplier commitments, and keep project supply activities aligned with project milestones.
This is a hands-on project buying role for someone with direct experience in automation, material handling, system integration, robotics, industrial equipment, or a similar technical project environment. The ideal candidate understands what needs to be purchased, why it matters to the project, which suppliers and subcontractors are involved, when each item or service is needed, and how supplier delays or scope gaps may impact project execution. This role requires strong ownership, practical BOM understanding, supplier follow-up discipline, clear communication, and negotiation skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end procurement execution for automation and robotics projects, from BOM review through delivery tracking and supplier coordination
- Ensure BOM completeness and proactively identify missing, long-lead, or high-risk items that could impact project timelines
- Source, evaluate, and manage suppliers for automation equipment, controls, robotics, conveyors, sensors, fabricated parts, and installation services
- Execute purchase orders, confirm supplier commitments, and maintain accurate procurement and project supply records
- Track supplier performance, delivery schedules, and project supply risks while driving recovery plans for delays or shortages
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Project Execution, Operations, Warehouse, Finance, and AP to keep projects aligned with milestones
- Improve procurement processes, supplier visibility, and project tracking tools to support scalable project execution
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field
- 5 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain within automation, robotics, material handling, system integration, or industrial equipment environments
- Strong experience managing project BOMs, supplier lead times, technical purchasing requirements, and PO execution
- Ability to manage multiple suppliers, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, and issue-resolution skills
- Experience with ERP or procurement systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Desired Experience
- Experience supporting warehouse automation, robotics integration, or material handling projects
- Familiarity with automation-related components such as conveyors, controls, vision systems, sensors, and EOAT/grippers
- Experience building procurement trackers, supply hot lists, or project purchasing dashboards for project visibility
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
- Travel Requirement: Less than 25%. Domestically and Internationally
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
