Compounds and dispenses drugs according to prescriptions issued by authorized medical care providers. Interviews patients regarding past medication history and allergies. Provides patients with instructions and counseling regarding medication. Provides information and consultation to medical staff. Supervises work of pharmacy technicians.

  • To be in attendance and on time.
  • Maintains inventory control and monitors purchasing, receiving, stocking and return/recall of all drugs and pharmacy supplies through the use of an automated reporting system.
  • Maintains a central computerized dispensing system by updating clinical information and price changes on each drug.
  • Provides pharmaceutical information and guidance for all health division departments involved in prescribing and monitoring medications.
  • Monitor working environment to assure effective use of resources.
  • Fills and dispenses prescriptions following proper procedures and ensuring safe and accurate pharmacy operations.
  • Monitors drug therapy by evaluating patient medical history, drug interactions, adverse reactions, therapeutic duplications, dosages and compliance with prescription orders.
  • Provides medication education to patients based on appropriate needs and understanding.
  • Works cooperatively with providers to offer the best medication management for the patient.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team concept to provide high quality healthcare to the patients, both at MIT Health Clinic and with outside providers.
  • At all times works with patients and staff in a respectful and courteous manner, demonstrating the highest commitment to customer services.
  • Facilitates proper pharmacy billing processes and communicates with appropriate departments.
  • Conflict management and resolution skills as they apply to staff and patient care issues.
  • Participates in Health division activities, health fairs, and educational programs as needed.
  • Demonstrates organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CDC, Dept of Health, OSHA standards as they apply to the healthcare environment.
  • Monitors compliance with safety policies and procedures within the pharmacy.
  • Maintains clean and hygienic pharmacy environment.
  • Responds to emergencies in calm and professional manner.
  • Participates in routine quality assurance measures within the pharmacy.
  • Demonstrates strong writing skills with legibility, accuracy and thoroughness. Possess excellent documentation skills.
  • Counseling ability with staff to provide constructive, objective feedback necessary for performance.
  • Ability to teach, provide training and orientation to students, technical staff and patients utilizing adult learning models, one-on-one, and group presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal communication and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Adheres to strict confidentiality policies and maintains HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.


Graduation from an accredited four year college of pharmacy; Washington State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license; and two (2) years of experience working in retail pharmacy.

Disease states, therapeutic use of drugs, clinically significant drug interactions, adverse drug reactions and their inter-relatedness.; Inventory control procedures and practices; Washington State laws and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy; Medication storage and shipping requirements for product stability; Legal requirements for pharmacy wholesalers relating to re-packaging and returns for credit of medications; Mathematics calculation skills for determining weight and strength of solutions for compounding; Organization and time management; Oral and written communications; Analysis; Problem-solving; Making presentations; Working in a team environment; Data entry and basic computer usage.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, lift, push/pull, reach and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, kneel, crawl and twist; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may be required to climb a short stepladder. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Current and valid Washington State Pharmacist Licensure.
