We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to join our team. This role plays a critical part in the financial success of our projects by ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely reporting throughout the lifecycle of each job.
What You Will Do
As a Project Accountant, you will manage and monitor the financial aspects of projects from start to finish. You will partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and the Finance team to ensure budgets are accurate, billings are timely, and financial performance is clearly understood.
Project Financial Management
- Prepare and monitor project budgets and conduct regular budget reviews to ensure projects remain within budget.
- Create and maintain project budgets in the accounting system, including updating contracts and entering change orders.
- Conduct detailed monthly job cost reconciliations to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial reporting.
- Analyze project costs, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in billing.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting efficiency.
- Create timely and accurate AIA construction billings, including lump sum and GMP projects.
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements and billing guidelines.
- Handle routine collections and monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely payment.
- Support accurate revenue recognition through consistent reconciliation and review.
- Compile information and documentation for external auditors as needed.
- Support the management team with financial insights and project analysis.
- Assist in improving internal processes and best practices to streamline project-related information flow.
- Take on additional responsibilities to support the broader Finance and Operations teams.

Experience & Education
- Minimum of 3 years of construction accounting experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Engineering preferred.
- Experience with AIA-formatted pay applications.
- Working knowledge of project contracts and change order documentation.
- Proficiency in Vista software preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize competing deadlines.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong people skills and a collaborative team-oriented approach.
- High level of integrity and accountability.

Work Schedule & Conditions
- Standard schedule: Monday–Friday 8AM – 5PM (with flexibility as needed).
- Some overtime or weekend work may be required.
- Travel to project sites across Texas may be required.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 3–7 years of project accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments.
- Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting preferred.
- Familiarity with construction contracts, cost coding, and retainage.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and project management systems.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
