Fleet Maintenance Manager

MTS Transport is seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, readiness, and compliance of our commercial vehicle fleet in Baltimore, MD.

This role requires someone who can manage both the operational and administrative sides of fleet maintenance. The right candidate will be highly organized, comfortable using technology, able to manage vendors and repair activity, and capable of keeping maintenance priorities moving without constant oversight.

The goal is straightforward: keep equipment safe, compliant, available, and operating efficiently while controlling downtime and maintenance costs.

What You’ll Do

• Manage preventive maintenance schedules for tractors, trailers, and other company equipment
• Ensure required inspections, annual inspections, PM services, and repairs are completed on time
• Track equipment that is out of service and actively manage repairs through completion
• Coordinate repair schedules with drivers, operations, vendors, and maintenance providers
• Review open work orders and ensure maintenance issues do not remain unresolved
• Manage outside repair vendors, including scheduling, communication, pricing, service quality, and follow-up
• Review repair estimates, invoices, and maintenance expenses for accuracy and reasonableness
• Monitor fleet downtime and identify recurring equipment or repair issues
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and supporting documentation
• Manage parts inventory and assist with purchasing and inventory controls
• Prioritize repairs based on safety, compliance, operational needs, and equipment availability
• Coordinate roadside repairs and equipment breakdowns when necessary
• Work closely with Safety and Operations to resolve vehicle-related compliance and driver concerns
• Monitor equipment condition and help ensure company vehicles and trailers are maintained to an appropriate professional standard
• Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, reporting, vendor performance, and cost control
• Provide leadership with clear updates regarding fleet condition, major repairs, downtime, maintenance spending, and unresolved issues

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience managing maintenance for a commercial truck, transportation, logistics, or heavy-equipment fleet
• Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs and commercial vehicle repair
• Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA vehicle maintenance and inspection requirements
• Experience managing outside repair vendors and service providers
• Ability to evaluate repair needs, estimates, invoices, and maintenance priorities
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of maintenance issues from identification through completion

Strong Organizational Skills

This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time, including:

We need someone who can build and maintain systems that keep important items from falling through the cracks.

Computer & AI Literacy

The Fleet Maintenance Manager must be comfortable using technology to organize and improve the maintenance operation.

Experience with or the ability to quickly learn systems such as:

• Samsara
• Motive
• TMW or other transportation management systems
• Fleet maintenance software
• Microsoft Excel
• Electronic maintenance and inspection records

Clear Communication

The Fleet Maintenance Manager works across multiple departments and must be able to communicate clearly with:

• Drivers
• Technicians
• Repair vendors
• Parts suppliers
• Operations
• Safety
• Company leadership

We are looking for someone who keeps people informed, documents important information, follows through on commitments, and can keep multiple groups aligned without requiring constant follow-up.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of fleet maintenance, maintenance management, or related commercial vehicle experience
• Experience managing a tractor-trailer fleet strongly preferred
• Experience supervising technicians or coordinating multiple outside repair vendors
• Experience with fleet maintenance software or transportation management systems
• Familiarity with Class 8 tractors, trailers, diesel equipment, and commercial vehicle systems
• Strong computer skills
• Experience reviewing maintenance costs and developing maintenance performance reports

ASE certifications, diesel technician experience, or formal fleet-management credentials are beneficial but are not required if the candidate has strong fleet maintenance management experience.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
