GENERAL DEFINITIONS AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Performs moderate to difficult technical work in the maintenance, repair and trouble-shooting of electrical and electronic components for City facilities; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. 



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:  
  • Performs electrical work which may include: installing, maintaining and repairing process instrumentation, electrical controls, power distribution, process equipment, power generation and automation systems for City owned properties including water treatment plants and remote facilities;
  • Troubleshoots facility electrical distribution infrastructure, equipment and systems to determine root cause of failure or deficiency; evaluates safety and reliability concerns; determines repair needs and coordinates required resources to address issues;
  • Performs inspections and preventative maintenance; monitors and evaluates security and safety system reliability; installs, maintains and repairs security systems, fire alarms and access control equipment to ensure availability of control systems;
  • Reviews, prepares, organizes and maintains diagrams, schematics, manuals and other related technical literature and activity documentation; maintains records using maintenance management software; determines required materials for maintenance and installation projects; maintains required parts, materials and related stock;
  • Evaluates maintenance and installation project work and determines impact to other processes; communicates and consults with internal and external stakeholders, contractors and service companies to coordinate work;
  • Provides support to other trades in the completion of maintenance, repairs and installation work; may be called upon to perform emergency repair work due to weather or other emergency-related events;
  • Completes related duties as assigned;

JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:
This position involves exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); frequent exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, movement restrictions and intense noise. Positions in this class typically require: balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  
In-depth knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of electrical maintenance, repair and installation work. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices. Thorough knowledge of uses and properties of supplies and equipment. 

Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations (based on assignment). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, contractors, residents, and businesses. Skilled in: diagnosing, assessing and evaluating electrical repair and maintenance needs; performing journey-level repairs, maintenance and installation of electrical components, equipment and systems; Conducting inspections, equipment testing and providing preventative maintenance; Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demand; Providing directions to others in coordinating work and to meet service standards; Providing attention to detail in assignments; Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications; Comprehending reference books and manuals; and operating assigned tools and equipment.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: 
High School Diploma or GED and four years of electrical experience and possess and maintain a North Carolina Electrical License.
