LANGUAGE LIAISON - PER DIEM
JOB SUMMARY
The Language Liaison is responsible for the provision of Spanish interpretation and translation. The coordination of language services for all patients and families who speak little or no English as well as those whose first language is Sign Language.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
- Providing service throughout the health system.
- Facilitates the delivery of health care services to the organization's linguistically diverse customers.
- Correspondence preparation, statistical tracking and trending and bill reconciliation, as well as other related tasks required when working with the Limited English Proficient patient and family population.
- Focus on customer service and patient safety for the family and patient population served related to interpretation and translation.
- Fluency in English and Spanish both orally and written
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma/Equivalent/AA Degree in a work-related field preferred Certificate from an acceptable Interpreter Training Program (minimum 40 Hours) Successful completion of a Medical Interpretation Training Course
Work Orientation and Experience
- Three years in a healthcare related role which requires multi-tasking
- Excellent personal interaction and problem-solving
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting providing interpretation and translation services
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and good skill level with data entry.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Must demonstrate highly effective customer relation skills with internal and external customers.
- Familiarity and ability to work with a diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds.
- Ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.
- Multi-task ability.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to organize are essential
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

- Reports to Language Services Manager and Director of Care Management/Social Work/Admissions/Language Services

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Interfaces with patients, families, Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital’s interdisciplinary team, health system staff, payers and the referring institutions.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED
- Computer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
- Risk of exposure to body fluids and infectious waste requiring the use of personal protective equipment. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Frequent stress due to emergency situations or multiple demands.
