ASSISTANT NURSE MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Nurse Manager has 24/7 accountability and serves in a supportive role to the Nurse Manager. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager will assume full oversight and responsibilities for their assigned unit/s. The Assistant Nurse Manager is an experienced professional nurse responsible for ensuring the mission, vision and values of MWPH. The Assistant Nurse Manager coordinates daily operations on the nursing unit, facilitating quality patient care according to the Master Plan for the Provision of Nursing Care and Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
Demonstrating the most up to date knowledge of advances in nursing practice, developmentally appropriate care, regulatory standards, the nurse practice act, and hospital policy and procedure the ANM will:
- Provide Clinical Oversight for patient care
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability utilizing the Just Culture Algorithm
- Address admissions, discharges and clinic appointments to ensure efficient throughput and staffing productivity
- Mentor and coach team members through active role modeling of expected practices addressing concerns in real time to ensure accountability and follow up.
- With the Nurse Manager, build positive and productive working relationship with the staff to ensure that all are engaged and committed.
- Actively participate in performance management of assigned personnel making recommendation regarding performance and merit related salary increases
- Frequently collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team to drive positive patient outcomes, sustain quality patient care and patient experience by attending rounds, interdisciplinary team meetings and family meetings.
- Collaborate with nursing and other organizational leaders on initiatives to achieve and sustain high scoring patient-completed surveys reflective of excellent patient experience.
- Foster positive and effective interdepartmental relationships.
- Role model the chain of command and effective communication to ensure that the Nurse Manager, Director, and CNO remain knowledgeable about unit related needs, activities, and concerns.
- Assist Nurse Manager in the preparation and management of unit operations/ capital budget.
• Stewards resources responsibly and within established budgetary parameters. - Manages the collection and reporting of Nursing Quality Data.
- Utilizes Nursing Quality Data as well as evidenced based practice to implement plans to improve hospital performance and patient satisfaction.
- Collaborates with Nurse Manager and Education Department to monitor orientation needs of new staff members and identify learning needs of staff.
- Manages the nursing and nursing support staff schedule
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements:
- Graduate of a National League of Nurses (NLN) Accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licensure, Certification and Registration
- Current and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
- Current CPR
- Pediatric Advances Life Support (PALS)
- Applicable Nursing Certification strongly recommended
Work Orientation and Experience
- Minimum of three years RN experience with two years in Pediatrics.
- Nursing Supervisor, Unit Coordinator or Charge Nurse experience required.

Directly interfaces daily with physicians, patients, visitors and other healthcare team members.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED
Operates patient care equipment specific to the age, condition and location of the patients.
Computer, fax, Xerox, phones.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to established protocols. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional stress due to emergency situations or multiple demands
