Job Overview

This is an essential position for someone who is passionate about nurturing the spiritual growth of children and guiding them in their early faith journey. Our Children's Ministry serves as a cornerstone in developing a loving, inclusive, and engaging environment where young minds can learn about God's love and Christian values. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator is responsible for furthering the mission of Mt Zion UMC by leading, managing and growing the children’s ministry. The position includes but is not limited to coordinating Sunday School activities, leading Vacation Bible School, and training and recruiting volunteers. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator reports to the Senior Pastor and works in conjunction with the Youth Director, Preschool Director, Choir Director and other pastoral staff of Mt Zion UMC. Responsibilities and Duties

· Plan and coordinate weekly Sunday School and Children’s Church classes and curriculum for ages 3 – 5thgrade

· Oversee the nursery schedule for children birth through two years old

· Recruit, train, and support volunteer teachers and helpers

· Research and select or create age-appropriate curriculum and activities that are engaging, biblically based that align with the United Methodist theology and values

· Organize and oversee special events such as Vacation Bible School (VBS), holiday programs, Music and Arts Camp, Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat, Grace and Gather Family Meal and Community outreach activities

· Attend Sunday Worship Services and lead “Time Mostly for Children” (with the Senior Pastor and Children’s Church

· Train and schedule Acolytes for worship services on Sunday

· Develop and manage the children's ministry budget

· Communicate and foster relationships with parents and caregivers

· Ensure all programs and activities adhere to the church’s Safe Sanctuary policies

· Maintain and update resources, materials, and supplies for Children's ministry

· Maintain accurate attendance records of children and volunteers

· Collaborate with other church leaders and staff to ensure cohesive Ministry efforts

· Serve as a connection point between the church and Sonshine Preschool

· Evaluate and assess program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed

· Provide care and support to children and their families

· Attend Church Committees that are associated with Children’s Ministry

· Prepare and deliver the children’s sermon during Sonshine Preschool’s Chapel once a month (September through May)

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods

· Comfort with using technology and social media for ministry purposes

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively

· Ability to lead and inspire volunteers

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately

· Basic knowledge of first aid and child safety procedures

· Availability to work Sundays (required), Wednesday evenings, and occasional evenings or weekends for special events

· Must pass a background check

· Physical ability to lift at least 25 pounds for event set up

· Physical ability to and willingness to engage in physical activities with children

Education, Training and Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education, Child Development or related field (Preferred)

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in children’s ministry or working with children in an educational capacity (Preferred)

· Prior experience in a leadership role

· CPR and First Aid Certified (Provided by Mt Zion UMC)

Hours and Schedule

· 25 hours per week:
Regular Sunday morning responsibilities, weekday hours in the church office and occasional work on Fridays and Saturdays

· Reports to Senior Pastor

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $28,000.00 per year
