What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Teacher: Focus on Tier 1 Acceleration (ELA or Math) 2026-2027 position at Mt. Washington Middle School?
We are looking for a highly skilled educator dedicated to eliminating persistent achievement gaps by ensuring all students have immediate access to high-quality, grade-level content. Unlike traditional remedial models that focus on recovery/remediation this role utilizes a "just-in-time" instructional approach to intentionally integrate prerequisite skills and academic vocabulary to prepare students for current grade-level curriculum. The primary goal is to keep students moving forward on their intended grade-level trajectories by providing support ahead of time so students can enter into Tier 1 instruction with more success. In addition, this role will serve as a unified arts teacher for Grade 8 students based on certification area.
- Dedicated to transforming outcomes for all students, particularly those who have historically started the year behind grade level.
- Consistently deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that focuses on helping students access and master current grade-level work.
- Proactively integrate critical missing prerequisite skills and concepts into lessons just prior to the acquisition of new learning.
- Use a "laser-focused" approach to address past concepts only within the purposeful context of future learning goals.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment that recognizes the unique assets of every learner while holding high academic expectations for all.
- Engage in deep unit and lesson internalization of High-Quality Instructional Resources (HQIRs) to identify necessary foundational knowledge for upcoming lessons.
- Use curriculum-embedded assessments to determine "just-in-time" whether students possess the specific learning needed for the next grade-level concept.
- Analyze universal screening and diagnostic data to proactively plan subsequent differentiated instruction and identify students needing additional intervention.
- Actively participate in MTSS and grade-level teaming structures to support school-level learning acceleration efforts.
- Utilize dedicated time within flexible schedules to study curriculum, practice lessons, and reflect on student progress with peers.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning focused on the effective implementation and internalization of adopted high-quality instructional materials.
- A firm belief that students learn more when they experience learning acceleration rather than remediation, which can widen academic gaps.
- The ability to move away from re-teaching long lists of missed skills (remediation) in favor of identifying and addressing specific gaps in critical concepts.
Applicants must hold a valid Kentucky Certification in Middle Grades English/Language Arts (ELA) or Math, along with meeting all other Bullitt County Public Schools (BCPS) employment requirements.
