Job Summary

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing residential construction projects from preconstruction through completion. This role coordinates field operations, supervises Foremen and crews, reviews plans and specifications, supports estimating and budgeting activities, manages schedules, materials, subcontractors, safety, quality, and project costs, and helps ensure each project is completed efficiently and in accordance with Mt. Tabor Builders standards. The Superintendent serves as a key link between field teams, company leadership, customers, architects, subcontractors, and other project professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Planning & Cost Control

· Review construction plans, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements prior to and throughout construction.

· Support project estimates, budgets, bid packages, and cost analyses using plans, specifications, labor, production, and material information.

· Identify cost differences, scope gaps, and potential budget impacts; gather information and recommend solutions.

· Use bid and project data to compare detailed cost information and help improve future estimating accuracy.

· Compile and track actual project costs and communicate significant variances to management.

· Participate in staff, project, and bid meetings as needed.

Field Supervision & Crew Leadership

· Provide overall direction for residential construction job sites and coordinate the work of Foremen, Craftsmen, subcontractors, and vendors.

· Communicate daily priorities, sequencing, project expectations, and deadlines to field leaders.

· Monitor labor productivity and workflow and make adjustments necessary to keep projects moving efficiently.

· Coach and support Foremen and field employees, reinforcing accountability, teamwork, and quality workmanship.

· Identify and resolve construction challenges in the field while minimizing delays and disruption.

Scheduling, Materials & Project Coordination

· Develop and maintain project schedules and coordinate labor, subcontractors, inspections, material deliveries, equipment, and other project needs.

· Coordinate with architects, designers, inspectors, suppliers, subcontractors, and other professionals to resolve project questions and maintain progress.

· Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available when needed and are used, stored, and maintained appropriately.

· Maintain organized, efficient, and professional job sites.

· Provide regular project updates to company leadership regarding schedule, costs, quality, customer concerns, and outstanding issues.

Quality, Plans & Code Compliance

· Ensure work is completed according to approved plans, specifications, building codes, customer requirements, and company craftsmanship standards.

· Read, interpret, and explain blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.

· Inspect work in progress and completed work; identify deficiencies and ensure timely correction.

· Maintain current knowledge of applicable building codes, construction methods, and industry improvements.

Safety

· Promote and enforce safe work practices on all assigned job sites.

· Ensure employees and subcontractors follow company safety policies and use required personal protective equipment.

· Identify and address job-site hazards promptly and communicate safety concerns to management.

· Stay current on relevant construction safety requirements, codes, and improvements.

Customer & Professional Communication

· Maintain professional communication with customers and help provide a positive building experience throughout the project.

· Communicate project status, field conditions, changes, and concerns clearly and promptly to appropriate stakeholders.

· Prepare or contribute to budgets, reports, project plans, proposals, and other project documentation as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills

· Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing, carpentry practices, and job-site operations.

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and building codes.

· Working knowledge of construction estimating, budgeting, cost tracking, and bid analysis.

· Strong math skills, including basic arithmetic and practical construction calculations.

· Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to direct multiple employees, subcontractors, and project activities.

· Strong planning, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects or assignments simultaneously and adjust priorities as needed.

· Close attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Excel and construction-related project documentation.

Education & Experience

· High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

· Minimum of 5-7 years of residential construction experience required.

· Prior experience as a Superintendent, Foreman, Lead Carpenter, Project Manager, or similar construction leadership role strongly preferred.

· Experience with residential estimating, budgeting, or cost tracking preferred.

Credentials, Certificates & Licenses

· Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment

This position works primarily on residential construction sites and may also perform administrative, estimating, and planning work in an office setting. The employee may be exposed to construction equipment, loud noise, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions including heat, humidity, and cold. The role requires regular walking and standing on active job sites and may require climbing ladders or scaffolding, bending, kneeling, and lifting or assisting with materials as needed.

Pay: $81,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
