Job Summary

Provides direct student-facing support to military-connected students, including student veterans, eligible dependents, and students using VA education benefits. Helps students connect with Veteran Services, understand general campus processes, navigate referrals and resources, and follow through on next steps.

Essential Duties

  • Provides welcoming, student-centered support to military-connected students who contact or visit Veteran Services. Supports day-to-day front-facing operations of Veteran Services during scheduled coverage. Greets students and visitors, routes calls and messages, responds to general inquiries, and provides information.
  • Provides appointment-based and drop-in support, including intake follow-up, troubleshooting basic barriers, helping students understand next steps, and documenting student contacts according to program practices. Connects students with internal and external resources, including emergency aid. Assists with the navigating programs and processes.
  • Provides general, non-certifying benefits navigation support. Explains general processes, timelines, and campus steps, and connects students to the School Certifying Official for certification-specific questions or actions.
  • Supports student communication related to Veteran Services processes, deadlines, appointments, available supports, and next steps.
  • Maintains accurate records, service logs, appointment notes, and basic reporting data related to student contacts, referrals, and program activity. Assists with data collection and tracking needed for grant-related quarterly reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

  • Associate degree OR completion of at least two years of college-level coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in education, liberal arts, psychology, social science, human services, or related field OR equivalent experience such as that gained by service in the military.
  • Two (2) years of experience providing direct support to student veterans, military-connected students, and/or other student or client populations.
  • Experience using computers and standard office technology, including email, Microsoft Office or similar tools, data entry, and/or appointment scheduling systems.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a community college, college/university student services office, school setting, public agency, nonprofit, or helping-services environment.
  • Experience supporting military-connected students, veterans, dependents, or students using VA education benefits.
  • Military experience, military family experience, or experience supporting military-connected communities.
  • Experience with community college student services such as advising, admissions, financial aid, basic needs navigation, counseling support, career services, or registration.
  • Experience with data entry, tracking systems, appointment scheduling, service logs, student records, CRM systems, or basic reporting.

  • Communicate clearly with students, staff, and campus partners.
  • Listen carefully, ask clarifying questions, and help students identify appropriate next steps.
  • Follow established procedures.
  • Document student contacts, referrals, and service touchpoints accurately and consistently.
  • Organize information, manage details, and follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Learn basic information about VA education benefits, campus processes, and Veteran Services procedures.
  • Use standard office technology and learn student information, scheduling, and tracking systems.

Working Conditions and Important Information

Working Conditions

This is an onsite position. Work is typically performed in an office or student services environment with frequent interaction with students, staff, and campus partners. Regular computer use, student communication, documentation, and standard office duties are expected.

Position may be assigned to provide coverage at a Veteran Services office, workstation, front-facing student support area, or other designated campus location.

Salary Placement

Initial salary placement will be within the posted range or pay rate of the position, and is based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College and in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience (including unpaid and volunteer experience) in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.
