Foster CTE Center serves students across the greater Farmington region and is committed to high-quality, innovative career and technical education. Our programs emphasize strong industry partnerships, hands-on learning, and preparing students for both college and career pathways.
Foster Career and Technical Education Center (FCTEC), part of RSU 9, is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Biotechnology Instructor to lead our state-approved CTE program aligned with CIP Code 41.0101 (Biology/Biological Sciences, General).
This position offers an exciting opportunity to build and deliver a hands-on, laboratory-based program that prepares high school students for postsecondary education and careers in biotechnology, biomedical science, healthcare laboratory science, environmental science, and related life science fields.
The successful candidate will combine rigorous academic instruction with applied laboratory experiences while fostering professionalism, collaboration, and career readiness in students.
Qualifications
- Industry or laboratory experience in biotechnology or related life sciences field preferred.
- Experience working with high school students preferred.
Certifications
- Holds, or is eligible for, Maine DOE Certification - (910) Maine Biotechnology Endorsement
- Develop and implement a Maine DOE-approved biotechnology curriculum aligned with Maine Learning Results and state CTE standards.
- Deliver hands-on laboratory instruction in areas such as molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, micro-pipetting, solution preparation, and laboratory documentation.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and OSHA-compliant laboratory environment.
- Integrate academic standards in biology, chemistry, math, and technical writing within applied instruction.
- Support work-based learning opportunities, dual enrollment, and industry partnerships.
- Engage with program advisory committee members and community partners.
- Maintain required documentation for CTE program approval and participate in Comprehensive School Review processes.
- Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes student growth and achievement.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, or closely related field required (Master’s preferred).
Experience
- Experience prefered
Working Schedule
- 180 days - School Year Only
- Travel between schools may be required
Reports To: Director of Foster Career and Technical Education Center
Terms of Employment: Professional Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement
Evaluation: Completed annually by Director of their designee
FLSA Status: Exempt
