Department Manager – Civil and Environmental Engineering (Minneapolis)
Environmental challenges for our clients are increasingly complex, and addressing them requires experienced leaders who can combine technical excellence, project strategy, client partnership, and business growth. Environmental Services Global Practice is seeking a proven leader to lead expansion of our Civil & Environmental Engineering business line in the Upper Midwest Region.
As Department Manager, you will be a key senior leader responsible for developing and inspiring teams, leading and capturing pursuits, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions for our clients. You will be accountable for the department’s overall performance and will influence strategy, mentor teams, build client relationships, and set the tone for exceptional project execution.
Projects are delivered across multiple methods, including planning-only, design-bid-build, design-build, and EPC, and span markets such as industrial, local government, utilities, and commercial sectors. The department supports a broad range of projects, including:
- Solid waste and resource recovery
- Industrial water and wastewater
- Coal combustion residuals
- General civil site design
- Water resources, stormwater management, and treatment
- Nature-based solutions and constructed wetland systems
- Stream restoration
- Other civil/environmental engineering projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline
- Minimum 7 years of relevant civil or environmental engineering experience, including project management
- Prior leadership and/or management experience preferred
- Proven experience leading civil/environmental engineering projects and teams across multiple markets (industrial, utilities, state/local government, etc.)
- Ability to lead, influence, and manage change in a thoughtful and positive manner
- Strong understanding of regional permitting frameworks, environmental regulations, and compliance programs
- Strong client-facing skills and experience leading multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving abilities
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Proven business development experience, including established client relationships in the Upper Midwest
- Experience leading environmental consulting teams and collaborating with construction and project management teams
- Experience managing multidisciplinary Design-Build environmental projects
