Department: Job Description Summary: Position Responsibilities Psych Services Responsibilities Initiates and completes initial admission assessments including education, discharge planning and care plan within departmental guidelines/time frames. Documents findings, continuous assessment, intervention & patient outcomes according to the program procedures. Plans, implements & coordinates nursing care activities for assigned patients. Assumes accountability for completion of delegated tasks during assigned shift, including but not limited to: Ensuring that each patient's general hygiene needs are met daily Dressing changes using aseptic techniques Bedside glucose monitoring according to policy Administering oxygen therapy according to physician order Maintains precautionary monitoring for identified high-risk patients, reporting and recording pertinent information regarding patient physical and emotional status. Attempts all alternative measures to avoid patient restraints both physical and chemical. Uses non-violent crisis intervention techniques. Demonstrates safe and correct use of restraints/seclusion as per policy. Demonstrates therapeutic use of self. Recognizes and identifies own feelings and feelings of others. Demonstrates a non-judgmental, empathic, warm & respectful attitude. Utilizes problem-solving techniques during goal-directed interactions. Participates in / facilitates goal-oriented patient and family group activities as appropriate. Demonstrates knowledge of basic dynamics of group interaction. Communicates effectively. Engages in goal-directed communication, verbal/non-verbal. Perceives and interprets verbal/non verbal communication. Validates communication with patient/family/colleague. Promotes surveillance, prevention, and control of infection following hospital and infection control guidelines. Attends and actively participates in interdisiplinary treatment planning/conferences/reviews and assumes responsibility for communication of treatment goals to pertinent nursing staff members. Interprets the nursing and treatment needs of patient to non-professional staff members assigned to the patient. Accurately transcribes and reviews physician orders including use of computer system/ programs following established hospital and unit's policy/procedures. Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention; reports all abnormal findings immediately to the physician. Provides & documents individualized instructions to patient / significant other(s) regarding plan of care including discharge plans. Upholds patient rights and adheres with the requirement of the law while taking care of Baker Act patients. Performs in calm, competent and professional manner during crisis or emergency situation. Promotes and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment; complies with the unit's safety policy and procedures. Documents specific patient valuables on designated form when received and immediately arranges for appropriate storage. Identifies areas needing improvement. Actively participates and promotes hospital's and department's performance improvement initiatives including but not limited to data collection, analysis, planning and implementation. Attends and actively participates in at least 75% of scheduled departmental meetings and in-service programs, providing positive suggestions and input. Qualifications License/Registration/Certification State of Florida RN License; Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Certification; Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification within 90 days of employment.
