Department: Job Description Summary: Position Responsibilities: Responsible for evaluating, staffing and census and unit employees schedule. Maintains annual competency in procedures/skills specific to unit (I.e. chest tube insertion and monitoring, application of pace aid external transcutaneous pacemakers, ICD's etc.). Prescribes, provides and monitors the nursing plan of care on a continuous basis based upon own assessments and those of other members of the health care team. Delegates patient care responsibilities to assigned care givers based upon patient needs and staff competencies. Develops time sheets to ensure adequate staffing levels consistent with unit workload, assessing/reassessing, prioritizing/reprioritizing assignments as needed. Conducts probationary and yearly performance evaluations of employees. Submits prior to anniversary date. Coordinates unit operations for assigned shift, subject to the review of the Unit Director/Manager, including scheduling, patient assignments, monitoring of unit activities, and coordination among other departments to ensure effectiveness of operation and the delivery of quality care. Demonstrates leadership skills through effective planning, time management, teamwork, and delegation of patient care activities to unit staff and resource utilization. Ensures that patient care or unit related communications are coordinated among all patient care team members. Plans and conducts unit staff meetings and assists in and/or coordinates patient care conferences. Assumes responsibility for new staff orientation and serves as a clinical resource, patient advocate and role model for nursing staff. Identifies potential patient and family concerns and provides appropriate intervention, including patient/family education as needed. Qualifications: License/Registration/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Florida. BLS required. Unit specific and/or National Professional Organization Cerfication preferred. Education: Bachelors degree in nursing preferred. Experience: Minimum of three years as a registered nurse preferred. Minimum three years of critical care area experience.
