Position Title: Direct Support Professional
Employment: 40 hours per week; 12 months per year
Reports To: VP Day Services/Day Program Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
2. Post high school training in teaching or training methodology; preferably experience in instructional capacity in a school, adult education, or rehabilitation facility; demonstrated skills in leadership and instructional ability.
3. Ability to pass drug/alcohol, tuberculosis, criminal history.
BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for an individual or group of individuals, either separately or in a team-teaching program; assists in the development of individual program plans and implementation through instructional situations in the areas of personal, social, and community living skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Individual/Group
1. Provides individual habilitation by implementing functional goals and objectives that promote integration into the community.
2. In conjunction with the Program Director, develops and maintains current developmental goals and specific objectives in measurable behavioral terms for each individual.
3. Develops the instructional materials necessary for individual instruction.
4. With Program Director, devises curricula and effective teaching strategies for adults, utilizing daily lesson plans.
5. Maintains accurate and complete daily attendance reports and timely progress reports on individuals.
6. Prepares necessary summaries and statistical reports related to production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Individual Training
1. Provides intensive community/facility training in mobility skills, social-behavioral skills, leisure and recreational skills, consumerism, and personal management-while ensuring participant safety.
2. Promotes the establishment of natural support networks to assist in vocational, recreational, and social integration.
Group Training
1. Prepares and maintains effective pre-vocational simulated work samples.
2. Prepares and maintains effective group habilitation activities.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
1. Promotes and assists in planning supervised special activities such as field trips, exhibits, volunteer sites, etc.
2. Attends and participates in individual case review and parent/client conferences.
3. Attends and participates in program and facility staff meetings.
4. Attends and participates in conferences, workshops, seminars, agency, and program in- service training.
5. Training staff on paperwork.
6. Assists with rest rooming as needed.
7. Assists consumers in using microwave and/or vending machine during lunch and break as needed.
8. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
1. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
2. Lifting minimum of 50 lbs.
