Position: Career Training (CT) Career Coach
The career coaching position at WTAE-CT focuses primarily on program retention. This is attained through direct and constant contact with students to help identify barriers or challenges they might be facing that would cause them to leave the program. Career Coaches should familiarize themselves with WTAE resources for students and monitor the weekly program newsletters to update on program information. This position is budgeted for 5-10 hours/week and reports directly to the Coordinator of Career Training and Employer Services.
Qualifications: This position requires a teacher license or an industry certification.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Student Coaching:
- Host weekly Career Connections Lab (CCL)
- Assist students with professional resumes, interview skills and professionalism
- Meet with students on a regular basis during the course of the semester
- Coordinate with program instructor to identify student needing support
- Facilitate Student Supportive Services requests (laptop, gas card, etc.)
- Monitor student attendance and send attendance notification emails and update CT Attendance spreadsheet with communication notes
- Provide Achievement Stars for successful completion of CCL tasks
WIN Essential Soft Skills: All Programs
- Lead WIN Soft Skills Essential Skills session
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to keep on track with PG
- Schedule student credential assessment and print completion certificate
- Enter Essential Skills Credential grade in class gradebook
OSHA-10 (Healthcare/Trades) All Programs - except CCMA
- Provide students with voucher code and approve seat
- Monitor student progress in gradebook - ensure student progresses to completion
- Add module grades to class gradebook
- Print completion certificate
IV: Learning Management Systems (LMS): NHA, DALE, NCCER, ESCO, or iPrep
- Assist students with creating online accounts
- Monitor student progress as outlined in syllabus or pacing guide(PG)
- Help student monitor their progress in Learning Insight Center
- Assist students with accepting/scheduling testing
V: Clinical Placement/ Job Shadowing
- Provide and review placement documentation with students
- Collect student documentation and monitor uploads in program portals
- Explain the importance of professionalism and conduct
- Distribute and review placement schedules with students
Programming Time:
The career coach position is an essential part of student success in the CT program. Career coach hours are 5:00 - 9:00 or 5:30 -9:30pm on scheduled days. While CCLs are only one hour sessions each week/class (except PLMB ELEC) the additional in program time should be used to complete the above tasks.
