Job Description: Band Director (Grades 6-12)
Location: Shakamak Junior Senior High School

Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music or a Music-related field
- Experience as a band instructor is prefered
- Will direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music.
- Strong communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
- Teach 6th grade beginning band, Junior High School and High School bands.
- Arrange music for small/large mixed ensembles focusing on a variety of genres appropriate for bands such as
contemporary, classical, and folk tunes.
- Teach music theory and instrument techniques to help accomplish the performance level of music.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principal, and
teachers.
- Direct the band when it represents the school at band, parades, festivals, and other public events (if applicable).
- Recruit students yearly for the band program by initiating outreach.
- Manage band finances and fundraising in Coordination with the Band Boosters.
- Oversee the band room including: the music library, music stands, and equipment.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of school-owned instruments; collect instrument borrow agreements from
students as well as associated fees.
- Coordinate fundraising by the band
- Coordinate and organize the Christmas Program and Spring Program. (This may be coordinated with the choir
teacher.)
- Work with Band Booster in areas to support the band
- Provide students an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities, supervising and coordinating
(developing) a marching band, pep band and field trips.
- Demonstrate understanding and ability to teach students with multiple learning styles and abilities. Ability to
arrange music, play a variety of instruments, and conduct music.
- Strong communication, organizational, motivational, teaching, and coaching skills
