Description:
The Educational Technician supports the instruction and development of children with identified developmental disabilities under the guidance of a certified teacher.
Provide one-on-one support for a preschool student with paraplegia and other medical needs in the school setting. Responsibilities include assisting with mobility, toileting and personal care needs, implementing accommodations and health plans, supporting participation in classroom and school activities, and collaborating with teachers, therapists, nurses, and families to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in preschool settings and with individuals with physical impairments. A current Educational Technician certification and successful completion of a criminal history background check are required.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support for student throughout the school day
- Assist with mobility, positioning, transitions and equipment within the school environment
- Support toileting, hygiene, and other personal care needs with dignity and respect
- Follow the student?s individualized educational, health and safety plans
- Assist the student in participating in classroom activities, specials, lunch, recess, and field trips
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, nurses, and families to support student success
- Monitor and report any health, safety, or behavioral concerns to appropriate staff
- Promote independence, inclusion, and positive peer interactions
- Assist in preparing classroom materials and supporting classroom management, as well as individual student needs including but not limited to therapy carryover, toileting, eating, dressing and daily living needs.
- Demonstrate developmentally appropriate, positive language and behavior as a model for children and families.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all student and employee information.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Obtain and maintain authorization as an Educational Technician II with the Maine Department of Education
- Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check
