What are the responsibilities and job description for the CUSTODIAN/BUS DRIVER position at MSAD 54?
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or HiSET.
- Must pass physical, eye exam, hearing test, etc.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds and must be physically able to assist an injured student off the bus in an emergency.
- Must hold and maintain a valid commercial driver?s license for the type of equipment to be driven.
- Must comply with and meet all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record, checked through the state with a minimum of 3 years previous safe driving experience.
- Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.
Reports to: Building Administrator, Transportation Director and Support Services Manager.
Job Goal: To provide safe and efficient transportation so students may experience the fullest possible advantage from the district?s curriculum and extracurricular programs and to provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.
Performance Responsibilities : Job duties may be different depending on the work site.
1. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean. Shovel and sand walks and steps as appropriate. Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair and make minor building repairs as assigned. Promptly report major repairs needed to the Building Administrator. Immediately report any damage to school property to the Building Administrator.
2. Responsible for opening and closing of the building each school day ensure at the end of the day all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
3. Raise the United States flag at or before 7:30 AM on each school day, and lower it at or after 2:30 PM, as required.
4. Daily, in assigned area: sweep, mop, buff floors and corridors, dust furniture, scrub and disinfect toilets, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains. Conduct and document monthly inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition, i.e. emergency lighting
5. In assigned area, wash all windows, inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
6. Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment on hand; requisition needed replacements.
7. Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required.
8. Follow proper safety procedures and comply with standard safety and OSHA regulations.
9. Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
10. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
11. Keeps assigned bus clean.
12. Keeps to assigned schedule.
13. Pre and Post Check bus before and after each operation for mechanical defects. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
14. Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
15. Transports only authorized students.
16. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
17. Enforces regulations (Bus Rules).
18. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
19. Will comply with all current Federal, State and local laws, rules, policies and with the RSU 54 Transportation Department Work Rules
20. Ensures bus cameras are in working order before each operation.
21. Follow proper safety procedures and comply with standard safety and OSHA regulations.
22. Maintain the poise of a disciplined person. Be tactful in dealing with others; resourceful and self-reliant; demonstrate respect for self and others; willingly accept suggestions and follow instructions; follow the proper channels of command and exercise confidentiality of privileged information relating to school and personal matters. Set a good personal example in the areas of personal hygiene, neatness and propriety of dress, courtesy, consideration, cooperation and proper use of language. Vulgar or sexually suggestive language will not be permitted at any time.
23. All custodians hired may be assigned to drive school vans
24. All other related duties as deemed necessary by the Building administrator or Support Services Manager
