What are the responsibilities and job description for the Route Sales position at Mrs.Stratton's Salads?
GENERAL ACTIVITY
Safely drive truck over an assigned route to deliver, sell and promote products or render services to established and prospective customers. Increase sales in territory.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Calls on customer and prospective customers to solicit business.
* Informs customer and prospective customers of new products, promotions, and services.
* Prepares and processes order forms and invoice.
* Records transaction and instructions in route book.
* Meets delivery driver and unloads materials according to bill of lading. Signs bill of lading or notes items short or damaged.
* Checks inventory into system on truck.
* Drives truck to deliver items to customer’s location.
* Unloads product and places stock on shelves, racks, or appropriate place designated by customer. Rotates
inventory and checks for damages, defects and/or expired dates.
* Set up merchandise and sales promotion displays or issues sales promotion materials to customers.
* Collects money from customers, makes change, and record transaction on customers receipt.
* Collects or picks up empty containers or rejected or unsold merchandise.
* Credits returns and out of date products.
* Records sales and delivery information on daily sales or delivery record.
* Obtains customers signature on invoice.
* Listens to and resolves if possible complaints. If unable to resolve communicates issue to supervisor.
* Uses hand held computer and printer to record and print orders, invoices, and other sales and inventory reports.
* Keeps accurate DOT records.
* Ensures truck maintenance is performed.
* Ensure outside of vehicle is clean and inside of truck is neat and well organized.
NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties as assigned.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE
* Minimum of one year route sales experience hopefully perishable food industry.
* Working knowledge, capabilities, proper maintenance and safe operation of vehicle.
* Knowledge of DOT safety regulations.
* Must have good driving record to be covered by insurance.
* Must be able to operate hand held computer.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
* Ability to read safety rules and regulations, equipment operating, and maintenance manuals.
* Verbal skills to communicate effectively.
* Writing skills to complete invoices, records, and reports.
* Handwriting must be legible.
* Able to follow instructions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
* Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
* Able to calculate discounts interest, commissions proportions percentages and volume.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
* Constant driving over assigned route.
* Constant sitting, walking, standing, bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
* Have a good sense of feel, taste, and smell.
* Frequently must reach with hand and arms to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
* Intermittently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
* Normal/corrected vision and hearing.
* Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
LICENSE REQUIRED
* State Issued Class B Commercial Drivers License
WORK ENVIRONMENT
* Constant driving and stopping.
* Depending on the sales route may travel and be away from home three nights per week.
* Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions.
* Work involves wet, damp, and/or humid conditions.
* Moderate noise level.
