The Plumbing Apprentice assists plumbing technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in residential and commercial settings, learning the trade by performing tasks like identifying leaks, assisting with pipe installation, cleaning drains, and replacing fixtures, all under close supervision to gain practical experience and comply with plumbing codes.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist with diagnosing problems and/or failures in plumbing systems.
- Assist technicians in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various plumbing systems.
- Help with the installation of new pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures like toilets, sinks, and faucets.
- Help technicians to ensure that all work is in accordance with federal, state, and local plumbing codes.
- Learn to read and interpret blueprints to understand plumbing layouts.
- Help test plumbing systems for leaks using air and water pressure gauges.
- Work on installing and repairing fixtures like sinks, toilets, and water heaters.
- Perform cutting, welding, and installing pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures.
- Perform sewer and drain cleaning services in areas including basements, confined spaces, and close quarters, including cleaning and restoring work site to a minimum pre-job condition.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform multiple technical tasks to include operating equipment, adhering to safety practices, and planning/managing projects.
- Ability to maneuver in crawl spaces, attics, and utility areas.
- Climb ladders of varying heights.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements
- Familiar with plumbing tools and equipment.
