The Protein Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory of protein products, including meat, poultry, and seafood, to support daily distribution operations. This role plays a key part in maintaining product availability, controlling costs, and ensuring product quality in a fast-paced food distribution environment.

Responsibilities
- Source and purchase protein products (meat, poultry, seafood) based on company needs and demand forecasts
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to ensure cost-effective purchasing
- Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and product availability
- Coordinate with sales and operations teams to align purchasing with customer demand
- Ensure product quality, food safety, and compliance with company standards
- Manage inventory levels to minimize waste and shortages
- Resolve supply issues, shortages, or quality concerns in a timely manner
- Track and analyze purchasing data, margins, and performance metrics
- 4 years of experience in purchasing, buying, or procurement (food industry preferred)
- Knowledge of protein products (meat, seafood, poultry) is highly preferred
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment handling perishable products
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
