Position Overview
The Application Specialist (Spectrophotometry) supports MPD Scientific’s spectrophotometer product line by providing technical expertise, application support, and customer training. This role connects the scientific needs of end-users with MPD’s technology by offering guidance on method development, troubleshooting, sample preparation, and best practices for UV-Vis workflows.
You will collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Customer Support to enhance product adoption, educate customers, and ensure users achieve reliable analytical results.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide scientific and technical support for customers using MPD spectrophotometers (UV-Vis).
- Assist customers with method setup, calibration, data interpretation, and application optimization.
- Develop application notes, user guides, SOPs, and instructional content.
- Conduct product demonstrations, webinars, and training sessions (virtual and onsite).
- Support sales by explaining technical capabilities, use cases, and workflow benefits.
- Troubleshoot customer issues and collaborate with engineering on product improvements.
- Evaluate customer requirements and recommend MPD product configurations.
- Participate in product launches and help shape future application-driven features.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Life Sciences, or related field.
- Hands-on experience using UV-Vis spectrophotometers in academic, clinical, or industrial settings.
- Strong understanding of spectroscopy principles and common lab workflows.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.
- Comfortable building relationships with customers and internal teams.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to travel occasionally for customer visits, demos, or conferences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in technical support, applications, or product training.
- Experience with method development (e.g., concentration analysis, kinetics, nucleic acid/protein quantification).
- Familiarity with regulated environments (CLIA, GLP, ISO).
- Experience creating training materials, SOPs, or application notes.
