Overview
We’re seeking a dedicated High School Math Tutor to provide drop-in academic support for students in an informal, after-school environment. The ideal candidate will be approachable, flexible, and passionate about helping high school students strengthen their math skills through one-on-one or small-group support. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently and fostering a welcoming atmosphere where students feel comfortable seeking help.
Responsibilities
Professionalism & Representation
- Represent the company professionally at all times while on campus.
- Wear company-provided apparel during each shift.
- Check in with school administration upon arrival and proceed to the designated tutoring area.
- Maintain a positive, approachable demeanor that encourages students to seek assistance.
Session Setup & Environment
- Arrive on time and set up a clean, organized tutoring space within the designated hall or library area.
- Prepare and arrange materials before students arrive.
- Create an inviting and student-friendly environment that promotes comfort and confidence.
- Ensure supplies are available and request replenishments with reasonable notice.
Tutoring & Student Support
- Provide academic assistance primarily in mathematics (Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, etc.), and support in other subjects as needed.
- Offer one-on-one or small-group help to students who voluntarily request assistance.
- Adapt explanations and examples to match different learning styles and skill levels.
- Work independently without direct supervision, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
- Circulate among students or remain at a designated table based on student needs.
Organization & Maintenance
- Keep the tutoring area neat and ensure all materials are properly stored after each session.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of shared spaces.
- Submit material or supply requests to the program coordinator as needed.
Time Management
- Arrive on time, ready to begin at the scheduled start of each session.
- Remain available and engaged throughout the entire scheduled period.
- Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding absences or schedule conflicts.
Qualifications
- Minimum of six months of experience tutoring or teaching high school mathematics.
- Associate’s degree or higher (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to explain math concepts clearly and patiently.
- Comfortable working independently in a semi-structured environment.
- Must pass a criminal background check via fingerprinting prior to employment.
- Reliable transportation to and from the school site.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed for materials and setup.
Tentative Schedule
- Tuesday: 2:45 PM – 4:45 PM
- Wednesday: 2:45 PM – 4:45 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: On-campus at the assigned high school
Compensation & Terms
- Job Type: Part-time
- Pay Range: $21.00 – $26.00 per hour, depending on education and experience
- Position contingent upon school-site funding and subject to renewal at the end of the contract term.
