501(c)(3) Nonprofit - After School Youth Program
Hiring for: (1) Culinary Arts Instructor in Baltimore City for an after school youth program (elementary grades). This is a part-time, contract position for (2) days per week between Mid-Jan to Mid-Jun. This position is 5.75 hours/week on Wednesdays (3:15p-5:30p) and Thursdays (3:30p-7:30p). This position requires the instructor to pre-purchase grocery items (includes a $40 reimbursement per class) in advance of each class.
All positions are IN-PERSON in Baltimore, City. Instructors must be based in the Baltimore City area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.
- Must have experience teaching students Culinary Arts (Cooking, Food Safety/Sanitation, Knife Skills, etc.)
- Must be available to teach classes on ALL scheduled dates and timeframes (except for scheduled school holidays).
- Using our provided Moving History curriculum: Create and implement engaging lesson plans that teach African Diasporan history, align with educational standards, and impart Culinary Arts as a discipline.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and academic growth.
- Utilize various teaching methods and techniques to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback and guidance.
- Collaborate with colleagues for the success of our interdisciplinary projects.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively, implementing appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Provide guidance and support to students in their personal and artistic development.
- Record student attendance in each class.*
- Distribute surveys to students at the beginning and end of the program.
- Check your company emails and respond to time-sensitive communication on a weekly basis.*
Note: You may be required to perform other related duties as assigned by the school administration related to this assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Professional Culinary Arts education/training is required.
- Proven experience working with students in a classroom setting.
- Strong knowledge of the subject matter (Culinary Arts).
- Ability to effectively manage student behavior and create a positive learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude.
- Strong ethics and reliability.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below.
- Professional degree or certification in Culinary Arts or a closely related field of study
required.
- 2 years experience working with youth K-12.
- Youth Programs experience is a plus.
Physical Demands:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in various performance settings; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate (up to 20 pounds) amounts of weight; to travel to other locations using reliable transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
