About Mousam River STEM Academy

Mousam River STEM Academy is a hands-on STEM school located in Alfred, Maine serving students from Preschool through 5th grade.

Our program emphasizes experiential learning, creativity, and exploration, blending STEM education with outdoor learning and project-based instruction.

Students learn through hands-on activities, real-world projects, field trips, and outdoor discovery on our beautiful 9-acre campus.

Position Overview

We are seeking a creative early childhood or elementary educator who enjoys working with young learners and designing hands-on learning experiences.

Teachers interested in working with students from Preschool through 5th grade are encouraged to apply.

Teachers hired for this role will be assigned to a classroom based on experience, qualifications, and program needs.

This position does not involve teaching all grades PK–5 simultaneously.

This posting serves as an open solicitation for educators interested in joining our expanding program.

The anticipated start date is June 2026.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction

• Deliver instruction aligned with established learning standards
• Use creative, hands-on teaching methods to support student learning
• Support student curiosity through exploration and discovery

STEM Learning

• Lead hands-on STEM activities and projects
• Encourage inquiry-based learning
• Integrate science, technology, engineering, and math concepts into daily lessons

Student Development

• Track student academic and developmental progress
• Maintain organized records of student learning
• Write student progress reports

Classroom Management

• Maintain a safe, organized classroom environment
• Establish positive routines and expectations

Outdoor Exploration

• Lead students in daily outdoor learning and play
• Supervise students during outdoor exploration in all seasons

Family Communication

• Maintain professional communication with parents
• Participate in conferences and school events

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in:

• Early Childhood Education
• Elementary Education
• Child Development
• Education
• STEM-related field

Experience

Experience working with children in an educational setting is required.

Relevant experience may include:

• Preschool teaching
• Early childhood programs
• Children's museums or science centers
• Outdoor education programs
• Educational camps
• Experiential learning programs

Experience with hands-on learning environments is strongly preferred.

Outdoor Learning Requirement

Students spend at least one hour outdoors each day, and teachers must be comfortable supervising outdoor activities in all seasons.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move actively throughout the day
• Ability to interact with students at floor level
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
• Ability to supervise outdoor activities

Certifications & Requirements

• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Maine criminal background check
• Valid driver's license
