Maintenance Technician Controls Specialist


Location: Orem, UT

Status: Part-time

Hours: Monday–Friday; 5:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.

Pay/Salary: $33.00–$38.00/Hour


Summary


The Maintenance Technician, Controls Specialist, plays a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing campus facility systems. This position performs a wide range of maintenance, adjustment, and minor construction tasks to ensure buildings and infrastructure meet College standards. While responsibilities span multiple trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, energy management, and fire and life safety, this role specializes in building controls and system automation. The Controls Specialist also supports skilled technicians on larger or more complex projects.

What You'll Do:


Responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician Controls Specialist include, but are not limited to:


  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules and service requests are created, updated, closed, and reported accurately.
  • Troubleshoot and inspect a variety of equipment and systems to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Assist with repairs to components and systems, including minor low-voltage electrical work.
  • Assist with electronic recordkeeping in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure accurate and efficient workflow tracking.
  • Identify projects requiring contractor or vendor assistance and gather relevant data for cost estimation and repair.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of materials, systems, and applicable codes related to facility management.

What We're Looking For:


  • Education Requirements: A high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Experience: At least four years of related experience.
  • Certifications: Certification or degree from a trades program or a technical school.
  • Organizational Abilities: Strong skills in time management, multitasking, and organization to efficiently handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Attention to Detail: Sharp problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy and effectiveness in daily tasks.
