Job Overview
The Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy (MCA) is a quasi-military, residential, alternative education program. MCA provides a safe, secure, structured training environment for volunteer youth ages 16-18. MCA is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counselor to join our team. Work is designed to support the 8 Core Components of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program: Citizenship, Life Coping, Leadership/Followership, Job Skills, Health & Hygiene, Physical Training, Academic Excellence, and Service to Community. The general duty for this position is Monday-Friday; some evening or weekend hours may be required with advanced notice.
Responsibilities
- Assist Cadets with transition into the Academy to improve completion rates and reduce homesickness
- Meet with Cadets on a regular basis, provide issue-based interventions
- Properly manage confidential and sensitive information
- Provide classroom instruction to Cadets in Life Coping Skills and Health and Hygiene

Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major course work in Education, Counseling and/or Guidance, Social Work, Human Services or other related areas.
- Two (2) years of experience providing services to youth, preferably in a residential setting or other appropriate experience.
- Salary grade increase available for candidates that possess or complete certification after hire in the areas of counseling, school guidance or social work.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
